Jake Carpenter, RHP/INF, Dublin Scioto, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio Dominican?

Carpenter: First and foremost it's a great institution with the degree I want to strive for, it's located in a great city that has plenty to do and its one of the best Division 2 baseball programs in the Midwest.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Carpenter: Belmont Abbey (SC), Trevecca Nazarene (TN), Heidelberg, Ohio Northern, Ohio Wesleyan, Earlham and Bluffton.

PBR: Where did Ohio Dominican first see you? How did your relationship develop with Coach Page?

Carpenter: Not sure where Coach Page saw me last year but he reached out to me late November last year, I took a visit in December and really enjoyed the campus and what the baseball program had to offer. Coach Page and his staff were awesome throughout this recruiting process and that was a big deal for my family and I.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Carpenter: As a Freshman, I hope to compete as hard as I can to earn my playing time on the field. Coach Page recruited me as both a pitcher and an infielder, so whatever he needs me to do I will do it to the best of my ability.

PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Carpenter: I play for the Ohio Stealth. Travel baseball has helped me improve my skills as a baseball player tremendously. Playing with and against some of the best ballplayers in the state over the years really helped me reach my potential, and it also helped me in getting prepared for my high school seasons.

PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Carpenter: My most memorable experience from this summer was playing games with the other team during rain delays like tic-tac-toe scribbled on a baseball at a tournament we played in Indiana. Although our team played some pretty amazing baseball over the summer and won plenty of games to remember, we all knew how to have fun while doing it- and that's the best part about this great sport. I'm thankful that I can say I competed and built life long relationships with some of the best guys during my summers with the Ohio Stealth.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Carpenter: My Dad. From pitching me giant foam wiffle-balls in the backyard when I was a toddler, to long tossing in our neighborhood across the street and in between houses nearly shattering windows with throws we made, to playing for him every year in the summer and for three years at Dublin Scioto- he has given me the greatest time of my life through this game. Not only did he make me better at baseball, but he helped me love the game the way I do today and I can't thank him enough for it.

PBR: What were your stats for this last season?

Carpenter: Junior year offensively I batted .262 with a .343 OBP compiled with 22 hits, four doubles 17 walks & one walk-off hit in league play. Defensively I held a .910 fielding percentage. Pitching I recorded a 2.60 ERA with 10 earned runs allowed in 26 2/3 IP, as well as having 3 saves out of 5 attempts and 20 K's as a reliever/closer.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Carpenter: Noah West for Westerville Central. He can hit the ball really well and he's pretty quick down the line.
