Inside the Recruitment: '16 SS Devin Hager commits to Eastern Michigan
July 24, 2015
Devin Hager, SS, Walled Lake Northern, Class of 2016
PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Michigan?
Hager: I chose EMU because it has everything that I want in a school. It's a smaller sized school and they have the degree in which I wish to pursue. The distance from home is just right. Already knowing players that I will be playing with in the future on a personal level was a big thing for me as well. I have a great relationship with all the coaches and they made me feel like I will be a big part of the future at Eastern.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Hager: I was also considering Xavier University and Central Michigan University.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Hager: Coach Van Ameyde first saw me play in a showcase tournament late in the year last summer.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?
Hager: I play for the South Oakland A's and my most memorable moment is winning the 17/18u Michigan State tournament last summer.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Hager: I expected the recruiting process to be slower than it turned out. It was a little stressful at times, but I'm glad it's over and I can continue to enjoy playing the game of baseball.
PBR: What were your stats last spring season?
Hager: I hit .346 with 34 RBIs and had a .928 fielding percentage. As a pitcher I was 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?
Hager: Mason Erla is the toughest pitcher I have faced. He has very good velocity on his fastball and deceptive off-speed pitches.
