Inside the Recruitment: '17 LHP Ethan Whitcomb commits to Madonna

Ethan WhitcombEthan Whitcomb, LHP, South Lyon, 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Madonna University?
Ethan: I chose Madonna because I felt the quality of education, the academic support and the baseball program were the best mix for me. I really felt a connection to Coach Haeger and how he approaches academics and baseball.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Ethan: I was also considering Spring Arbor, Concordia, Calvin and Northwood.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Ethan: Coach Haeger saw me in high school last year.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment.
Ethan: I played for A Green 17u this past summer. The most memorable moments really came off the field as this group of super dedicated baseball players and coaches turned into a real family.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Ethan: I wasn't sure what to expect from the recruiting process. I can tell you that all of my visits were awesome. The coaching staffs all made me feel like they really wanted me at their university.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?
Ethan: I led A Green in innings pitched for the summer. I finished with an ERA of 1.67 and a WHIP of 1.1

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced?
Ethan: It's hard to pick one. While on A Green we were playing top talent every weekend. Playing high school ball for South Lyon I'm constantly facing great hitters from schools like Brighton, Northville, CC and Novi.
