Inside the Recruitment: '17 OF Evan Brown commits to Bowling Green
July 25, 2016
Evan Brown, OF, Anthony Wayne HS, Class of 2017
PBR: Why did you choose Bowling Green?
Brown: Bowling Green felt like a home away from home for me. Also I have been playing with fellow commits Dylan Dohanos and Nick Neibauer for a combined 8 years now in summer ball. Another aspect was that I feel Coach Schmitz and his staff will do a great job developing me into a great ball player.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Brown: Northwestern, Cornell, Yale, & Harvard. (All for football)
PBR: Where did Coach Schmitz first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Brown: Coach Schmitz saw me play in the regional semifinals at BGSU.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?
Brown: It feels pretty great to know that all my hard work has finally paid off.
PBR: BG is in your backyard. How much of a role did distance play in your decision?
Brown: Being able to go to a school close to home was important to me. I love the idea of giving my family the opportunity to come watch my home games.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Falcon baseball?
Brown: My speed is my biggest asset as a ball player. I'll bring an outfielder with a large range who can cover Bowling Green's large outfield. I will also provide power at the plate as well as speed on the bases.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Brown: Arsenal Baseball. Playing in the Evoshield Classic down in Atlanta, Georgia.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Brown: I expected the recruiting process to go a little faster, but it was worth the wait.
PBR: What were your stats this spring season?
Brown: .343 avg, 21 RBI, 18 SB 2 HR
