Tuesday, July 25 marked the beginning of the 2023 Prep Baseball Report Junior Future Games,  held in Emerson, Georgia at our LakePoint Sports Complex. For this event the various PBR staffs from around the country form teams from their region to compete in a tournament. Again this year, Team Mid-Atlantic was represented by two 14U teams and a 13U team. Last year, 13U Team Mid-Atlantic won the Tournament Championship

This year, the teams participated in a workout on Tuesday before the beginning of pool play on Wednesday. Each team was guaranteed four games, three in pool play and then one in bracket or consolation play, which begins on Saturday.

Throughout the next two weeks, our staff will highlight the 14u "Mid-Atlantic 2" roster, comprised of twelve Maryland/Delaware players and three Virginia players. After losing the first pool play game to Team Georgia, Team Mid-Atlantic 2 would rattle off two straight wins over Team Arizona and Team Ohio, finishing their pool play at 2-1 and earning a spot in the "Gold" bracket. After defeating Team Oklahoma in dominating fashion in the first game, Team Mid-Atlantic 2 would squander an early 7-0 lead to eventually lose on a walk-off to Team Nevada.

Over the next few weeks, PBR Maryland Scouting Director, Jamie Naill will highlight all twelve MD/DE players who showcased their skills at this year's PBR Junior Future Games. Next up is an athletic, offensive outfielder who showcased intriguing baseball IQ; 2027 Luke Gamble (Arundel).

Luke Gamble OF / RHP / Arundel , MD / 2027

Always a fun player to watch, Gamble impacts the game in multiple facets and looks to be a player that will make a ton of noise throughout his high school career. A mid 80's exit velo, 7.30 60-yard and a high 70's to low 80's outfield velo aren't numbers that necessarily jump off the board, however Gamble is advanced in the way he plays the game. Come game time, you will be hard pressed to find a player that impacts the game like Gamble does and he executes the little things consistently.

Quick hands and the ability to match plane at the dish is something that caught my eye early this week, showcasing the ability to hit line drives to all fields with strength specifically portrayed to the pull side. It's a balanced operation in the box, with hands pre-set high and rhythm in the barrel that possesses some whip to it. The base running is something that also caught my eye. The ability to advance on a throw or swipe a bag showcases the baseball IQ that Gamble possesses without (as of now) a plus run tool. The athleticism is there, and look for metrics to increase as the body matures. An offensive outfielder that is certainly trending up as he heads into his his first year of high school.
