KY/TN Underclass Border Battle: KY Class of 2021 Top Statistical Performers

Chris Fuller
Kentucky Director of Scouting

The 2018 Kentucky/Tennessee Underclass Border Battle took place October 13-14 at the University of Kentucky’s new baseball stadium and brought together more than 80 of the top uncommitted Class of 2020 and 2021 players from both states in what has become a premier event to see top uncommitted talent.

The weather for this year’s event had its sight set on not cooperating as Saturday featured cloudy and chilly conditions for mid-October with temperatures in the 40’s, while Sunday featured that as well, only with the addition of a constant drizzle/light rain that made conditions certainly less than ideal. A few players didn’t seem to be affected much by the adverse conditions, putting up similar numbers we’ve seen from them in the past, while other’s numbers were a notch below what they have previously shown.

All profiles have been updated with stats and videos from the event.

The following is a look at top statistical performers from Kentucky Class of 2021 players. The Class of 2020 article was featured yesterday.

Top KY 2021 Pitcher Velocites

85 – Bryce Saylor, RHP/3B, North Bullitt HS

- On a day where many velocities were down from previous bests, Saylor seemed unaffected as he pounded the zone with his 83-85 mph fastball and 71-73 curveball. He allowed one hit and struck out two in two innings. Castleman worked two quick innings, showing command of his 79-81 mph fastball to both sides of the plate while mixing in a 68-69 curveball effectively. McClinton worked a quick inning recording two strikeouts with an 80-81 mph fastball and 66 mph curveball. Oak’s velocity was down 2-4 mph at this event.
