Laporte gets First Win of the Year



LaPorte 9 – Oak Hill 0

It was a great day for baseball in Converse, IN as the LaPorte Slicers beat Oak Hill High School 9-0.  Tommy Snyder pitched a great game for LaPorte, he got the win, allowing six hits, zero walks, and had five strikeouts.  

LaPorte did all the scoring in this one.  The Slicers got one in the first, Nick Latham walked and was knocked in on a single by Ian Price.  LaPorte wouldn’t score again until the fifth where they put up three more runs.  Mike Eldridge reached on an error and score on an error. Ben Saliwanchik and Latham scored on a single by Price making the score 4-0.  The Slicers would add another in sixth and four more in the seventh to bring their run total to nine. 

Snyder was not the only one who had a good outing Wednesday.  Derek Durkes threw five good innings for Oak Hill, the 6’6 righty was 80-82 consistently while touching 84 a couple of times.  After giving up one run on four hits in the first inning, Durkes settled in and retired 11 straight hitters.  Durkes allowed six hits, one earned run, and struck out five.
