Every Monday during the season, we will highlight the top matchups each night as well as give a short preview of a few games of the week.

GAMES OF THE WEEK

James Wood at No. 20 Millbrook, Thursday, May 27
The final regular season game for each of these teams will likely decide who will be the Northwestern District champion this year. Millbrook enters the week unbeaten, with a lineup centered on senior Yogie Hartigan (George Mason) and a rotation that features junior Jerrod Jenkins, who is lined up to start this game on the mound. James Wood's only loss to a Virginia opponent this year was their first matchup with Winchester rival Millbrook, and their veteran lineup built around seniors Jayden Nixon, Kaden Spaid, and Aden Payne has put up double-digit runs in 7 of 10 games this spring.

Woodgrove at No. 4 Freedom (South Riding), Friday, May 28
Another late-season rematch features the top two teams in the Potomac District, with unbeaten Freedom hosting Woodgrove, whose lone loss is to the Eagles. Woodgrove should have senior Christian Hile (Marshall) lined up to start and Freedom will likely go with senior Connor Kolarov (William & Mary), with Val Taddei (Lehigh) also a possibility depending on how much he throws earlier in the week. Both teams have deep lineups that are senior-laden, and while the first matchup was an easy Freedom win, expect this game to be a tight one.

Mills Godwin at Douglas Freeman, Friday, May 28
Godwin enters this Richmond-area showdown off of tough loss to Glen Allen last week. With a week off, junior Luke Calveric or senior Trent Pulliam (James Madison) will both be options on the mound for the Eagles. Freeman is also coming into the game with a week of rest and will have all of their arms available, with junior two-way player Macho Santiago (VCU) the likely starter and also an important piece to a talented and deep lineup that also features senior Andrew Bland, junior Trey Shelton, and freshman Lee Sowers (Virginia Tech).
