As the MIAA "A" Conference kicks off the 2022 season, we break down key players throughout the Conference and designed our own Preseason All-Conference Team. The MIAA "A" Conference contains some of the most talented and projectable athletes across the Old Line State, and we as a PBR Maryland staff cannot wait to utilize out boots-on-the-ground approach to scouting throughout the 2022 Spring season.

This list is comprised of two catcher positions, four infield positions, three outfield positions, a utility position, and three pitchers. We have also nominated three individual preseason awards, including "Newcomer of the Year", "Player of the Year", and "Pitcher of the Year.

Newcomer of the Year: 2025 RHP/INF Peyton Miller (Gilman)

The Clemson University commit contains an uber-projectable 6-3, 190 pound frame with intriguing two-way ability entering his Freshman year at the reigning MIAA "A" Conference Champions, Gilman. Miller looks to give Coach Larry Sheets valuable and important innings both on the bump and at the plate, as the fastball has been up to 89 mph on a consistent basis, and the power potential at the plate is as legit as it comes for an incoming Freshman. There will be no surprise to see Miller's name headlining draft discussions out of the Old Line State by his Senior year.

Player of the Year: 2022 SS/C Ripken Reese (Mount Saint Joseph)

After missing the 2021 Spring season with the Gaels due to injury, the Kent State University commit brings a ton to the table on both sides of the ball and will bring some well needed stability to a Mount Saint Joseph team in 2022. The power and advanced approach at the dish is one of the best in the state, making him one of the most feared and respected hitters in 2022. The positional versatility is something to be highlighted as well, giving Coach Phil Kraska a ton of options on the defensive side. Reese can really pick it at the shortstop position, and showcases his athleticism and arm strength behind the dish. When you're looking at a player who is the "Most Valuable" for his team this season, Ripken Reese headlines that list.

Pitcher of the Year: 2023 RHP Parker Thomas (Archbishop Spalding)

Coming off of an impressive 2021 campaign, leading the Cavaliers to the MIAA "A" Conference Championship game, Thomas brings an intense demeanor to the mound and will headline what should be a very deep Cavalier rotation. The East Carolina University commit mixes his arsenal effectively, inducing consistent weak contact while running the fastball into the high 80's. Look for the velo to continue to climb, leading what looks to be a very talented Archbishop Spalding team this season.
