MOKAN Preseason All-State Showcase: Outfielders Analysis

On Saturday, February 29, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Preseason All State Showcase event at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City. Roughly 60 of some of the top prospects in the state were in attendance, representing the 2021-to-2022 classes.
Shortly after the event’s conclusion we published an instant analysis story, highlighting the top statistical performers from the event. Our position-by-position breakdown from this event started yesterday with the catchers and we’ll continue by diving into the outfielders today.
Highlighting this group of outfielders are several intriguing prospects representing the 2021 and 2022 classes.
The top prospect and performer from this group was Dylan Dreiling (2022; Hays, Tennessee commit). A nationally ranked prospect, Dreiling is a twitchy athlete with a silky-smooth swing and advanced defensive actions. He is one of the top 2022 outfield prospects in the Midwest.
A trio of uncommitted Kansas’ 2021 outfielders caught the eyes of our staff at this event: Tegan Cain (2021; Ellis), Cooper Marsh (2021; Mill Valley), Chandler Miller (2021; Basehor-Linwood). Cain is a confident defender that has an easy line-drive oriented swing at the dish. Marsh is an athletic defender and flashed intriguing power potential in batting practice. Miller may have the highest ceiling of the bunch, tossing 88 mph from the outfield and pairing that with a smooth swing that easily finds the barrel. All three are outfield names-to-know.
Bradley Poletis (2021; St. Thomas Aquinas) is an uncommitted outfielder out of Missouri that solidified himself as one of the top outfielders in Missouri’s 2021 class. He boasts a powerful arm, tossing 88 mph from the outfield with well above-average arm strength for his age. Poletis is one of the top 2021 outfielders in Missouri.
Five sophomores, besides the aforementioned Dreiling, are uncommitted and showed well at this event: William Jones (2022; Blue Valley), Brock Kobel (2022; Lee’s Summit West), Levi Martin (2022; Olathe South), Garrett Ferguson (2022; Summit Christian Academy) and Kade Biellier (2022, Willard). Jones and Kobel are both sub-seven second runners in the 60-yard dash, while Martin, Gerguson, and Biellier showed off their above-average arms and pull-side pop.

Kade Biellier, Willard (MO), 2022
Positional Profile: LHP A top ranked prospect in his class.
Body: 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Strong, muscular build.
Defense: Athletic fielding position, fluid outfield actions, quick feet.
Arm: LH. OF - 87 mph. Long arm action, high 3/4 slot; strong arm.
Hit: LHH. Balanced setup, smooth load, toe-tap trigger to short stride, hands remain in strong hitting position. Present bat speed, short, uphill path to the baseball, aggressive swing.
Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Consistently makes hard contact, present raw power.
Run: 7.50 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Feet start narrow towards third base side of rubber, deceptive drop/drive type delivery, level shoulders, lands closed, athletic finish, throws with some effort.
Arm Action: LH. Short arm action, high 3/4 slot; quick draw.
FB: T81, 78-80 mph. Flashed arm-side run, strikes to both sides of the plate.
CB: 63-67 mph. 12/6 shape, gradual action, feel to spin.

Logan Brooks, Hume (MO), 2022
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-foot-0, 170-pounds. Athletic, projectable frame.
Defense: Fields the ball with two-hands, some accuracy on throws.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Long arm action, high 3/4 slot.
Hit: RHH. Tall, slightly open setup, quick leg lift trigger, short stride, hands start elevated by ear and lower to waist while remaining in strong hitting position. Quick hands, short path to contact, consistent line drive contact.
Power: 80 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Run: 7.62 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Tall/fall type delivery, strong balance point, level shoulders, front foot lands slightly open, some rhythm throughout, strong finish.

Tegan Cain, Ellis (KS), 2021

Body: 5-foot-11, 200-pounds. Durable build; strong lower half.
Defense: Athletic outfield actions, confident defender, accurate throws.
Arm: RH. OF - 86 mph. Loose arm action, high 3/4 slot; quick arm.
Hit: LHH. Balanced, open setup, bat lays rested on back shoulder, quick leg kick trigger, short stride, stays balanced through contact. Loose hands, short, level path through contact, line-drive oriented swing.

Body: 6-foot-0, 185-pounds. Strong, athletic frame. Twitchy athlete, defined lower half.
Defense: Smooth defensive actions, works with a confident rhythm, fluid footwork, fields the ball cleanly.
Arm: LH. OF - 85 mph. Short, loose arm action, high 3/4 slot.
Hit: LHH. Stands tall in the box, feet start close together, active pre-pitch movement, slight bar load, athletic leg lift trigger, short stride, explosive lower half. Clear bat speed, short, level path to contact, line drive approach at the plate, works with a certain confidence at the plate, fluid rhythm through contact.
Power: 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. Easy feel to find the barrel, bat speed generates power.
Run: 6.94 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Feet start staggered towards first base side of rubber, quick side step initiates delivery, drop/drive type, strong front side, works in line with his target, smooth rhythm throughout, simple delivery.

Tristen Everard, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2021

Body: 6-foot-0, 160-pounds. Lean, lanky, athletic build.
Defense: pop times. Plays athletic in the field, gets around the baseball, sound footwork, accurate throws to the plate.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Long, loose arm action, high 3/4 slot.
Hit: RHH. Slightly crouched, balanced setup, quick leg lift trigger leading to short stride, stays balanced through contact. Uphill path through the zone, creates extension allowing him to elevate the baseball.

Garrett Ferguson, Summit Christian Academy (MO), 2022
Positional Profile: RHP An impressive arm with more velocity to come and above-average changeup. A high-follow in Missouri's 2022 class.
Body: 6-foot-0, 175-pounds. Athletic, projectable build.
Defense: Sits back on the ball, feet work in line with target, athletic finish through release.
Arm: RH. OF - 89 mph. Long, loose arm action, over-the-top slot. Lively arm, ball jumps out of his hand.
Hit: RHH. Relaxed, athletic setup, wide base, smooth load, short stride, maintains balance through contact. Quick bat, loose hands, simple swing, bat travels in a short path through contact, impacts the baseball, pull-side tendency, smooth rhythm through contact.
Power: 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Easily finds the barrel producing steady hard contact.
Run: 7.77 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Works exclusively out of the stretch, drop/drive type delivery, strong front side, creates extension down the mound with a long stride, athletic on the mound, finishes his pitches, silky smooth rhythm throughout.
