May 30 Regional Tournament Scores and Highlights

There were five more regional champions to be crowned Thursday evening, which meant five more teams punching their tickets to Lexington for the State Tournament that begins Monday with a full slate of games at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

6th Region Championship

PRP 3  Butler 2
Greg Laughlin entered the game in the first inning after Butler had scored 2 runs and held the Butler offense scoreless on 3 hits the rest of the way.  Jonathon Cavanaugh went 2-3 and Alex Miller added a hit and RBI in the PRP win.

PRP advances to face Ashland Blazer June 4 at 11:00 AM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

7th Region Championship

St. Xavier 6  Male 5
St. Xavier blew a 5 run lead in the 6th, and then scored a run in the bottom of the 7th to win it.  Sam Melchior went 3-4 with 2 RBI, Miles Lee went 2-3 with a triple and RBI, and Austin Clemon and Nate Stemle each added 2 hits in the win.  Jack Cleary picked up the win in relief of starter Ben Britt, tossing the final 1 1/3 innings with 3 strikeouts.

St. Xavier advances to face Logan County June 4 at 1:30 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

8th Region Championship

Collins 4  Spencer County 3
Buddy Johnson drove in 2 runs and worked 6 innings on the mound to lead Collins to the 8th Region title.  Logan Bailey added 2 hits, and Dan Sanders slammed the door in the 7th to earn the save. 

Collins advances to face Tates Creek June 3 at 8:30 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

9th Region Championship

Ryle 4  Dixie Heights 0
Ethan Brennan needed just 79 pitches in throwing a complete game, 3-hit shutout to lead Ryle to the 9th Region title.  Tyler Lonnemann and Tom Deters each had 2 RBI in the win.

Ryle advances to face Harrison County June 4 at 6:00 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.

15th Region Championship

Prestonburg 3  Belfry 0
Jarrin Hall fired a complete game shutout as Prestonburg won its first Region championship since 1948.

Prestonburg advances to face North Laurel June 3 at 1:30 PM in the State Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.
