NY Fall Rankings Update: Class of 2023

As the fall comes to a close and the 2022 showcase outdoor season ends, our staff sat down for a modest update to the 2023 class rankings. In what is shaping up to be one of the deepest crops of pitching in recently memory, 11 arms pace the Top 20 while 22 of the Top 50 profile as primary pitchers.
Some shuffling occurred inside the Top 10, as a new OF/LHP Chris Diaz (Millbrook Prep) jumped to #5 along with a new face making his debut: LHP JT Caruso (Mount Sinai).
Included below is a look at the Top 10 in the class, a full list of the 375 ranked players, the top uncommitted by position, and this update's risers attached with scouting notes.

Highly projecatble 6-foot-4, 160Lb Southpaw. The long letfty has deception in the delivery with a long arm action through a low 3/4 release. The FB sat 88-89 MPH with plus movement flashing ride and run through the zone (18" IVB / 18" ASR). The out pitch is a 2400 spin sweeping slider with 2-plane break ( -6.5" IVB / 19" horizontal) that sits 72-74 MPH. Physical 2-way prospect with advanced metrics: FB: 87 MPH with high spin and up to 21" IVB for swing and miss profile. At the plate projects to have dynamic power (21g Rot Acc / 73 MPH bat speed) with a peak EV of 96 MPH. The 6-foot-1, 200 pounder ran a 6.80 60.

Put on one of the more impressive rounds of BP this fall at the Interstate flashing the big time power driving a ball 413 feet (106 EV / 86 MPH bat speed). Also showed a plus arm from the OF up to 91 MPH.

Johan Franco RHP / RHP / The Stony Brook School, NY / 2023Rankings StateRank: 56 / POS: 18
6-foot-2, 192 lb athlete. Impressed at the Metro Scout Day sitting 87-89 MPH with a FB that jumps through the zone (23.6 IVB) while countering with a Knuckle curve that has splitter like action.
