Nebraska Elite 50: Pitcher Only Reports

Prep Baseball Report Nebraska's Elite 50 event took place on Sunday, May 20, 2018. The event was held at Westside High School in Omaha, NE. The event featured select prospects from the 2019, 2020 and 2021 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from the player's in attendance. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches; while also playing 14 innings.
There were a number of great individual performances this year at the PBR NE Elite 50.
As we drill down into the statistics: (40 players in attendance)
+ 30 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 27 players recorded 85+ mph exit velocities
+ 13 players recorded 80+ mph infield throws
+ 11 players recorded 80+ mph outfield throws
+ 6 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 19 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Logan Van Treeck LHP / 1B / Lincoln Southeast, NE / 2019Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 3
6-foot-5, 205 pound left handed pitcher topped out 87 mph with his fastball. Ranked #10 in Nebraska 2019 rankings. Long project-able frame. Arm action is long on the backside and long out-front, clean front side. Leverages height to get his fastball on a downhill plane. Avg. run to his arm side. 1/7 shaped breaking ball with solid shape and depth. Change up his hard and heavy to his arm-side, mostly left elevated. Project-able frame with dominate stuff at times during the 2018 spring season.

Sam Wibbels RHP / 3B / Hastings, NE / 20196-foot-1, 215 pound right handed pitcher topped out at 91 mph with his fastball. Kentucky commit. Ranked #2 in Nebraska 2019 rankings, #345 in 2019 National Rankings. Dominate stuff in his two innings of work at the Elite 50, struck out 5-6 that he faced. High effort in delivery. Fastball gets downhill with cut action. 80-83 mph breaking ball was above average. Solid 10/6 shape, tight spin with late action.

Drew Christo RHP / OF / Elkhorn, NE / 20216-foot-2, 185 pound right handed pitcher topped out at 82 mph with his fastball. Project-able frame with long limbs. Fastball was in the 78-82 mph range in his two innings of work. Uses leverage to get the ball on a downhill plane. 12/6 shape on 65-68 mph breaking ball, landed comfortably for strike. Avg feel for 68-69 mph change up with downward action.

Michael Finan RHP / OF / Westside High School, NE / 2020Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 3
6-foot-4, 180 pound right handed pitcher topped out at 82 mph with his hard cutting fastball. Ranked #13 in the Nebraska 2020 rankings. Tall lanky frame. Short arm action, pitches all have life. Landed 11/5 shaped breaking ball for strikes. 7.07 60 runner. Shows athleticism on the mound. Strong prospect to follow in the 2020 class as he continue to develop on the mound.

Jackson Brockett LHP / 1B / Elkhorn South, NE / 20215-foot-11, 165 pound left handed pitched topped out at 79 mph with his fastball. Slender build. Advanced polish for age, good tempo, controls the running game. Wrapping arm action on the backside, clean out front. Worked fastball 100% to his arm side with running action. Solid shape and spin on 1/7 shaped breaking ball. Feel for firm change up. Advanced pitch-ability on the mound, strong follow for 2021 class on the mound.

6-foot-2,190 pound left handed pitcher topped out at 81 mph with his fastball. Ranked #16 in Nebraska 2019 rankings. USC-Upstate Commit. Mature build. Short arm action on the backside, long out front. Some stiffness on the front side. Fastball has late run and sink to his arm side on a downhill plane. 1/7 shaped breaking ball with larger loop, early breaking. Commanded the zone with left on left, sporadic command of the strike zone at times.

Nate Whitehill LHP / 1B / Papillion-LaVista, NE / 2019Rankings StateRank: 19 / POS: 6
6-foot-2, 210 pound left handed pitcher topped out at 82 mph with his fastball. Physical mature build. Ranked #19 in Nebraska 2020 class. Easy arm path from a high ¾ slot. Clean repeatable actions. Varying cut and run action to his fastball. Showed advance feel for 63-64 mph breaking ball for strikes. Breaking ball had 1/7 shape with depth across two planes.
