Prep Baseball Report's NE Fall Review took place on Sunday, October 30, 2016. The event was held at Ultimate Baseball Academy in Omaha, NE. The event featured prospects from Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota from the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff.

CATCHING Prospects

Brayden Bock, C, Elkhorn, 2020
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher ran a 5.78 40 yard sprint. Small frame that should continue to develop as he is only a 2020 graduate.  Slightly open tall stance at the plate, long swing path, all field approach. Posted an exit velocity of 73 mph off a tee. In the infield, has soft hands and works out front, feet have a tendency to slow at times, mid ¾ arm action that topped out at 67 mph across the infield. Behind the plate threw in the 2.25-2.36 range to 2nd. Slightly offset set up, quiet receiver, sways well to receive pitches in/out. Blocks well, works side to side to keep ball in front.

Grant Deisley, SS/C, Lincoln East, 2019
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting infielder/catcher ran a 5.22 40 yard sprint. Square stance, short leg kick triggers a compact line drive swing. Hard contact to pull side, all fields approach. Posted an exit velocity of 82 mph off a tee. Playable actions in the infield. Hands work out front and has a clean transfer through the ball. Threw across at 69 mph to 1st. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.31-2.47 range. Offset stance, narrow feet, will slide side to side vs. swaying with pitch, receives off speed pitches deep. Glove hand gets high while blocking.

Zane Harris, C, Ralston, 2020
5-foot-11, 170-pound catcher ran a 5.22 40 yard sprint. At the plate, square stance, toe tap trigger, slight uphill swing plane. Posted an exit velocity of 68 mph off a tee. All field approach with line drive contact to all fields during round of BP. Behind the plate, threw to 2nd in the 2.12-2.23 range. Slightly offset stance, narrow feet, sits a bit high, receives pitches up & down well, will stab at pitches in and out, quiet feet, late target. Soft blocker, keeps ball out front.

Ryan Jansen, C, Millard West, 2017
5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher ran a 5.38 40 yard sprint. Tall square stance, leg kick trigger, pull side approach, uphill swing plane. Ground ball contact. Posted an exit velocity of 70 mph off a tee. Behind the plate threw in the 2.14-2.45 range to 2nd. Square setup, soft receiver, reaches for pitches on inside and outside at times, quite feet, fundamentally sound blocker.

Gage Juhlin, C, Elkhorn South, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound catcher ran a 5.5 40 yard sprint. Square stance at the plate, toe tap trigger, hands drift into a slight arm bar, uphill swing plane. Showed good power to all fields during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 81 mph off a tee. Active feet and playable hands in the infield, works through the ball and presents out front with rhythm. Behind the plate, throws to 2nd in the 2.12-2.32 range. Offset stance, occasionally stabs at balls in the dirt rather than block, receives deep, good lateral movement, quick feet. Fundamentally sound blocker.

Tanner Lukoski, RHP/C, Omaha Skutt, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound two-way player ran a 5.16 40 yard sprint. Present strength in lower half. At the plate, tall open stance, top tap rhythm with hands, line drive swing plane, pull side approach, line drive swing plate. Some stiffness. Posted an exit velocity of 81 mph off a tee. Behind the plate, threw in the 2.06-2.28 range. Square stance behind the plate, receives well, slides well to block, quiet feet pre pitch, receives deep and adjusts well to misses in the strike zone. On the mound, topped out at 84 mph with his fastball. High ¾ arm slot on a downhill plane. Aggressive front side, slight fall off to glove side. 69-71 mph breaking ball has late depth in the strike zone. Arm is short on the backside and long out front. Strong follow for the 2019 class.

Grant Oseka, C/OF, Papillion LaVista South, 2019
5-foot-11, 153-pound catcher ran a 5.47 40 yard sprint. At the plate, has a square stance, short leg kick trigger, compact line drive swing plane, line drive, ground ball contact. Posted an exit velocity of 73 mph off a tee. Behind the plate, threw to 2nd in the 2.14-.2.22 range. Square wide stance, tendency to stab at the ball, deep receiver, early target, fundamentally sound blocker, adjacent stance for off speed. Moves well side to side.

Matt Pleiss, C/SS, Millard West, 2020
6-foot, 200-pound two-way player ran a 5.59 40 yard sprint. Athletic wiry frame that should continue to fill out and add strength. Posted an exit velocity of 68 mph off a tee. Stands tall at the plate, high leg kick, triggers slightly uphill swing path, ability to elevate to pull side. Occasionally ran into hard contact. Behind the plate threw in the 2.32-2.56 range, topping out at 68 mph down to 2nd. Wide stance behind plate, hands have a tendency to get beat to the ball, blocks square & soft, moves well side to side, stance gets adjacent on off-speed pitches. On the mound, topped out at 75 mph with his fastball, front side opens early, athletic finish, long arm action on backside and out front. Showed above average feel for his changeup for his age, was consistently down in the zone. Showed progressive feel for his 11/7 shaped breaking ball.

Tommy Roland, C/OF, Millard North, 2020
6-foot-2, 177-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Physical wiry frame. Ran a 5.19 40 yard sprint. Tall square stance, compact slightly uphill swing plane. Ground ball contact, middle approach. Posted an exit velocity of 77 mph off a tee. Behind the plate, threw to 2nd in the 2.33-2.51 range. Square set up, will go to knee to receive, sits high, stabs at low pitches, blocks squarely, feet work through the ball. Topped out on throws to 2nd at 64 mph.

Zane Schmidt, C, Kearney Catholic, 2018
5-9, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher ran a 5.2 40 yard sprint. Crouched open stance, strong base, compact uphill swing plane. Line drive, pull side approach. Posted an exit velocity of 84 mph off a tee. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.07-2.25 range.  Narrow setup, receives deep and has good side to side movement. Quiet feet, tendency to block balls off to the side during live bullpens vs. being square. Strong receiver.

Jack Thompson, C, WDM Valley, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound catcher ran a 5.03 40 yard sprint. High energy with a great attitude. Wide open stance, leg kick trigger, slightly up swing plane. Hard contact to pull side. Posted an exit velocity of 80 mph off a tee. Square stance behind the plate, sits high, wide set up for off speed, fundamentally sound blocker, reads balls in dirt well, quick feet, leads with glove, sways L/R to receive. Threw to 2nd 2.06-2.15 range.
