Prep Baseball Report's Freshman Free event took place on Sunday, July 22, 2018. The event was held at Bellevue West HS in Bellevue, NE. The event featured Nebraska and Iowa prospects from the 2022 grad class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff.

Brayden Andersen RHP / SS / Kearney , NE / 2022 5-foot-9, 145 pound two way player ran a 7.62 60 yard sprint. Wiry athletic frame. Open stance, aggressive leg kick triggers, long linear bar path through the zone, ground ball/line drive contact during round of BP. Posted an 74 mph exit velocity off a tee. Topped out at 74 mph across the infield, works directly to the ball, ball gets deep in stance, extra tap in release. On the mound topped out at 77 mph from a mid ¾ arm slot. Repeats well, falls off towards glove side, clean front side. Little feel and shape to 60-61 mph breaking ball. 64-65 mph change up thrown with fastball arm speed, mostly left to his armside up in the zone.

 

 

Teigan Becker SS / RHP / Omaha Burke, NE / 2022 6-foot-1, 135 pound two way player ran a 8.43 60 yard sprint. Long and loose frame. Open stance, short stride trigger, control compact line drive swing plane. Ground ball contact during round of BP. Posted an 68 mph exit velocity off a tee. Threw to 2nd in the 2.59-2.82 range, actions are behind. Corner actions in the infield, plays directly to the ball, deep in stance, tendency to stab, topped out at 65 mph across the infield. On the mound, topped out at 68 mph from a low ¾ arm slot. Repeats well, controlled delivery. Little feel for change up at this time, was harder than fastball at times. Some tilt on 63-64 mph breaking ball across the zone

 

 

Tadan Bell LHP / OF / Columbus, NE / 2022 6-foot-1, 150 pound two way player ran a 7.87 60 yard sprint. Arm works really well on the mound. Compact clean action on the backside and long out front. Sat in the 78-80 mph range in the strike zone. Fastball is on a downhill plane with running action. Advanced feel for breaking ball and change up for age. Breaking ball had 2/8 shape with late depth, change up runs heavy to his arm side. At the plate, open stance, leg kick trigger, compact uphill barrel path, pull-side approach, some hook. Posted an 74 mph exit velocity off a tee. Easy athletic actions in both the infield and outfield. High level follow for the 2022 class as he continues to develop.

 

 

Jaxson Cahoy RHP / Millard West, NE / 2022 6-foot,150 pound two way player ran a 7.75 60 yard sprint. Athletic build with some broadness in shoulders. On the mound topped out at 77 mph from a low ¾ arm slot with some run/sink to his fastball. Front side is loose, flies open. Little feel for breaking ball at this time, spins, no break. Change up was around the zone. At the plate, square stance, leg kick trigger, compact line drive swing plane, hands stay inside with the body, ground ball contact during round of BP. Posted an 80 mph exit velocity off a tee. Playable actions for first ball, plays the ball out-front, clean transfer, topped out at 77 mph across the infield.

 

 

Dylan Driessen RHP / 3B / Millard West , NE / 2022 5-foot-10, 140 pound two way player ran a 8.84 60 yard sprint. Square stance, leg kick drops hands, short uphill barrel path. Posted an 69 mph exit velocity off a tee. In the infield, works directly through the ball, works up through the ball deep in his stance. Topped out at 65 mph across the infield. On the mound topped out at 68 mph from a high ¾ arm slot. Front side is clean, some athleticism in finish. Little feel for strike zone with change up. Breaking ball has 10/6 shape, loose spin. Left to his arm side.

 

 

Max Myers C / OF / Kearney , NE / 2022 5-foot-10, 140 pound catcher ran a 8.14 60 yard sprint. Square stance, simple stride triggers compact line drive swing plane. Middle/pull approach. Posted an 79 mph exit velocity off a tee. Behind the plate through to 2nd in the 2.28-2.54 range. Tall wide stance, works through the ball, clean transfers. Topped out at 71 mph from the outfield, plays the ball out-front, extra tap in transfer, mid ¾ arm slot.

 

 

Cooper Panneton C / 3B / Creighton Prep, NE / 2022 6-foot-150 pound catcher ran a 8.63 60 yard sprint. Athletic build. Square stance, short stride triggers high hands, line drive swing plane, some looseness in hands, spray hitter. Posted an 75 mph exit velocity off a tee. Behind the plate through to 2nd in the 2.52-3.01 range, sporadic around the bag. Low set up, quite head, sound blocker, works through his throws with a slight hitch on the backside.

 

 

Cole Pietig 3B / 1B / Millard West, NE / 2022 5-foot-9, 170 pound infielder ran a 7.72 60 yard sprint. Compact athletic build, some maturity in frame. Square stance, short stride triggers wiggle in hands, all fields approach, ground ball and fly ball contact during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 77 mph off a tee. Corner actions in the infield, works directly through to the ball, wide base, feet get heavy, plays ball outfront, extra tap in release from a high 3/4 , topped out at 65 mph across the infield.

 

 

Darryl Rowe III C / OF / Millard South, NE / 2022 5-foot-6, 130 pound two way player ran a 7.40 60 yard sprint. On the mound topped out at 66 mph with his fastball. Mid ¾ arm slot with flat action on fastball. Arm had tendency to slow on change up, left to his arm side. Little feel for breaking ball in the zone at this time. Open tall stance, short stride, hand wiggle, slightly uphill barrel path, all fields approach. Avg. contact during round of BP. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.59-2.82 range. Tall stance, works through the ball. Average actions in the both the infield and outfield, shows athleticism at times.

 

 

Blake Stanley SS / OF / Elkhorn , NE / 2022 6-foot, 145 pound infielder ran a 8.28 60 yard sprint. Square crouched stance, short stride, loose uphill barrel path, hard contact to the middle of the field. Posted an 73 mph exit velocity off a tee. Sound actions in the infield, works around and through the ball, hands play out-front- clean transfer to short ¾ release. Topped out at 71 mph across the infield

 

 

Rice Whitaker 1B / C / Creighton Prep, NE / 2022 5-foot-6, 165 pound two way player ran a 7.92 60 yard sprint. Compact frame with some present strength. Square stance, short stride, compact line drive swing plane, looseness in hands. Threw to 2nd in the 2.36-2.54 range, sound actions, works through the ball. On the mound topped out at 66 mph with his fastball. Mid ¾ arm slot, repeats well, short arm action on the backside. Some sink to his arm side. 10/6 breaking ball with downward depth and feel for change up in the strike zone.

 

 

Jackson Yeager RHP / 1B / Westside, NE / 2022 6-foot, 180 pound two way player ran a 9.81 60 yard sprint. On the mound topped out at 70 mph with his fastball. High ¾ slot, long on the backside and out-front,  front side has a tendency to leak open to the glove side, shows some athleticism in finish. Breaking ball has 12/5 shape with feel for the strike zone, some depth. Feel for change up in the strike zone. Open stance, leg kick triggers slight arm-bar in uphill barrel path, pull side approach. Posted 78 mph exit velocity off a tee. Playable actions at first base, feet and hands work in unison, gets through the ball, topped out at 65 mph across the infield.

 

 

Dylan Carpenter SS / OF / Millard North, NE / 2022 5-foot-8, 120 pound infielder ran a 8.19 60 yard sprint. Open stance, short stride, compact line drive swing plane. Barrel gets through the zone. Hard contact to the middle of the field. Posted an 73 mph exit velocity off a tee. In the infield, corner actions, works directly to the ball, hands get stuck deep in stance, Mid ¾ arm slot that topped out at 63 mph across the infield.

 

 

Tanner Johnson RHP / SS / Kearney, NE / 2022 5-foot-11, 140 pound left handed hitting two way player ran a 7.76 60 yard sprint. Wide square stance, simple compact line drive swing plane, mostly working away during round of BP. Athletic actions in the infield, feet work, soft hands, plays out-front, works through the ball, topped out at 72 mph across. Posted an 63 mph exit velocity off a tee. On the mound, topped out at 69 mph with his fastball. Arm works, loose out-front, repeats well. Showed feel for both a breaking ball and change up. 10/6 shape with depth. Follow for the 2022 class in Nebraska as he continues to develop physically.

 

 

Braden Sweet LHP / OF / Millard South , NE / 2022 5-foot-9, 135 pound left handed two way player ran a 8.03 60 yard sprint.  Topped out at 71 mph on the mound, some funk in delivery. Front side flies open, mid ¾ arm slot, stiffness in front leg. Some run to his arm side. Looping 59-61 mph breaking ball. 2/8 shape, has depth. Open stance, leg kick starts looping uphill barrel path through the zone. Hard contact to pull side with timing is right. Hands flash some looseness through the zone. Posted an 73 mph exit velocity off a tee. Controlled actions in the outfield, works through the ball, extra hop in transfer, topped out at 72 mph to the catcher. Follow for the 2022 class as he continues to develop physically.
