Nevada American Legion Championship Game

Nevada Scouting Director

Southern Nevada Tribe (11) vs. Las Vegas Aces (8)

The Tribe capitalized early on defensive miscues by the Aces to plate a run in the first as well as three in the second, staking starter, ’18 Garrett Giles to a 4-0 lead.  The Aces bounced back scoring three runs in the third. ’19 Zac Czerniawski led off with a double, followed by ’18 Jason Sharman’s single, ’18 Jimmy Gamboa’s double, and just like that the Aces were back in business, trailing 4-3 into the 5th inning.  The Tribe struck twice in the 5th and five times in the 6th to lead 11-3.  The Aces did not go quietly, battling until the bitter end, scoring five times in the seventh and bringing the tying run to the plate in the form of ’18 Chaison Miklich. One may recall, Miklich was the hero the night before, hitting a walk off double. The table was set when ’20 Demitrius Vigil, on in relief of Giles, induced Miklich to fly out to right centerfield. The Tribe pounded out 11 hits, including a home run from ’18 Christian Rivero and doubles by ’19 Kyle Turner, ’20 Zach Hose, and ’20 John Howard Bobo.

Las Vegas Aces Eliminated

Tribe, Game 2 starter, ’19 Shane Spencer was recognized as the Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament for his complete game effort and ’18 Garrett Giles was awarded the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for his efforts across the board, earning two wins on the mound as well as hitting .400 for the tournament, including a walk-off single to get to the Championship game.

Southern Nevada advances to Western Regional play and with a tournament win would advance to the American Legion World Series.
