The new NCAA Legislation that was proposed last week has been approved the NCAA Board of Directors.  This means the rules governing contact with underclassman and visits is in effect immediately.

Unofficial Visits - In Effect as of today

  • High School Prospects can begin to take unofficial visits to NCAA Division I schools on September 1st of their Junior year.

  • This means that any high school student visiting a college campus will not be able to meet with college coaches or staffs.  Tours of athletic facilites, by athletic staff members is prohibited until the September 1st date and prospects will not be able to receive tickets to sporting events hosted by the schools until the September 1st date.

  • Underclass Prospects can still visit schools, setting up tours through the admissions department, like any other prospective student would... they can attend games, but they will pay for their own tickets and they will not be able to have contact with a team's coaching staff.

Official Visits

  • Beginning on September 1st, and falling on September 1st of each year, Juniors will be able to take Official Visits to NCAA Division 1 schools.

  • In the past, Official Visits were limited to Prospects that had begun their Senior year.  The new rule will allow for programs to pay for part of, or the entire visit to a campus during the Junior year.

  • This rule will begin to take place with the Junior class that will graduate in 2020.

This week PBR has extensively covered the new rules and their possible effects on college programs and high school players, through podcasts and stories.  Below are two links that will answer a lot of questions about the new legislations.
