PLAINFIELD, IL - No. 5 Plainfield North matched up against Southwest Prairie conference foe Oswego on Tuesday afternoon and came away with a convincing 6-0 victory.

Plainfield North (7-3) sophomore Eben Heine and junior Cam Kissel teamed up for the shut out, allowing a total of four hits throughout. Heine, one of the top right-handed arms in the Illinois’ 2020 class got the ball to start the game and went five strong innings for the Tigers. Heine scattered three hits and struck out two behind a fastball that sat 83-86 mph, climbing as high as 87 twice. He used a steady three-pitch mix throughout to keep the Oswego (6-3) lineup off balance.

Kissel came out of the bullpen and closed out the final two innings, striking out four and allowing one hit. Kissel once again showed why he is one of the top uncommitted junior arms in the state. The quick-armed right-hander came out hot, challenging hitters with a fastball that sat anywhere from 89-92 mph early on and touched 93. He eventually settled anywhere from 86-91 mph and mixed in a sharp curveball with hard downer action at times.

Plainfield North jumped out to a 2-0 in the first inning thanks to a two-out, two-strike, two-run triple off the right-field fence by senior shortstop Gavin Doyle. The Tigers would go on to score a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth, en-route to the 6-0 win. Senior first baseman Brady Miller delivered the key blow in the fifth, a sharp two-run line-drive single to left field. Miller’s single scored catcher Greg Budig, who led off the frame with a double and Garret Cook who had singled.

The Panthers of Oswego best chance to score came in the top of the second inning. The Panthers loaded the bases after a two out, hit-by-pitch, a single by Jason Crafton and a walk. Heine, the Tiger starter, was able to wiggle out of trouble by inducing a comebacker to get out of it. After that scare in the second inning, the Panthers were unable to get a base runner past second base the rest of the way.

Miller paced the Plainfield North lineup going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Doyle finished 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.
