ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL - No. 22 St. Viator played host to No. 6 St. Laurence in an ESCC-CCL cross conference matchup. St. Laurence’s bats started the game hot and never cooled off, putting up 17 runs over five innings, to defeat St. Viator by a score of 17-7.

The Vikings of St. Laurence put up five runs in the first inning thanks in large part to back-to-back home runs by, St. Xavier commit, Gage Olszak and freshman third baseman Vytas Valincius. St. Viator would answer back though with three runs in the bottom of the first. The first five batters of the game for St. Viator recorded a single, Bryce Hellgeth and Ryan Stejskal recorded RBI in the inning.

St. Viator tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the second. The first two batters reached safely on a walk and a fielding error by starting pitcher Zach Verta. Notre Dame commit Casey Kmet delivered with a hard hit double to left field, scoring one run and advancing the other runner to third. Jack Mahoney, a South Carolina commit, followed by hitting a deep sacrifice fly to center, knotting the game at 5.

In his second at-bat of the game, to lead off the third inning, Gage Olszak launched another ball over the right center wall to put the Vikings ahead 6-5 after three. The St. Laurence offense put the game out of reach in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring 11 combined runs. Leading the way was none other than Gage Olszak, who added five more RBI in the two innings. Olszak finished the game 4-for-4 with one double, two home runs, four runs scored, and nine RBI.

The Lions were unable to overcome the 10-run deficit, ending the game in five innings. Offensively St. Viator was led by Casey Kmet,  2-for-3 with one double, one walk, one run scored and one RBI, Jack Mahoney, 3-for-3, three runs scored, one RBI, and Ryan Stejskal, 2-for-3, two RBI.
