NorCal Co-Players of the Week: Gabe Cortinas & Josh Giffins

Blaine Clemmens
Northern California Director of Scouting

For the first time this season we have co-players of the week, as 2019 RHP Gabe Cortinas of Kimball HS (Tracy) and 2019 RHP Josh Giffins of California HS (San Ramon) have been named this week’s Prep Baseball Report Northern California co-Player of the Week due to their standout performances, as each of them threw a perfect game last week!

Giffins, a University of Utah commit, threw his perfect game in a 4-0 win on 4/27 against San Ramon Valley HS (Danville), striking out five batters. For the season Giffins has a 0.76 ERA in 37 IP, allowing only 14 H, 15 BB, 4 HBP, and striking out 32 batters.

As for Cortinas, he remains uncommitted but perhaps this outing and awareness of his outstanding season will spur some interest in the junior right-hander. He threw his perfect game in a 10-0 win against Weston Ranch HS (Stockton) on 4/26. For the season Cortinas has 44.2 IP, posting a miniscule 0.63 ERA, with 41 K, 19 H allowed, 5 BB, while allowing only two extra base hits all season.

For their efforts, Cortinas and Giffins have been named the Prep Baseball Report NorCal Co-Players of the Week for the week of April 23-29 and Prep Baseball Report congratulates both of them for their hard work and season-long contributions to their teams. Both have been truly outstanding all season.
