The Rising Stars ID tour in Northern California culminated into a final event on June 6 at Islanders Field in Lathrop. The event hosted players in the 2027 and 2028, some who no doubt attended with the intent to show they’re deserving to be considered to represent Team California at the Prep Baseball Report Jr. Future Games in LakePoint, GA. 

This July, PBR California will be taking a team to the Jr. Future Games for the first time. This unique event is run in conjunction with, and at the same facility as, the Future Games which last year hosted over 360 college coaches. Adding to the spectacle is the uniqueness of the event being open to uncommitted players only. 

Players were put through the traditional showcase workout that included the 60-yard dash, Bullpens, BP, and a defensive workout using Trackman, Swift Technologies, and more to measure every movement. After the showcase portion of the event, the players took the field and played a game with simulated innings. The players faced some of the most talented players in their age group with strong competitive spirit.

Derek Allen

Allen showed off the strongest arm at the event, throwing 85 across the infield. With the bat, Allen hit balls consistently with 80+ exit velocity. On the mound, Allen topped the event with his 80.6 mph fastball which averaged a 2011 spinrate. He also threw a + curveball that topped at 71.6 mph with a spinrate averaging over 2800 rpms.

Cooper Benjamin

Benjamin was one of many consistent hitters, he had an average exit velocity of 80.3 with a max of 84.2. He also pitched and threw the second highest fastball at 78.8 mph. He also ripped an average spinrate of 2456 on his curveball. In the outfield and infield he threw a consistent 80 mph. Benjamin, among others, shows the strong potential to be a solid 2-way player in high school.

Takoda Jones

Takoda Jones was one of many strong hitters, he tied in 5th for the top exit velocity of the event at 85.1 mph. Jones also showed off a good arm from both the infield and the outfield, throwing 75 mph and 76 mph respectively. He can play in both the infield and the outfield and hold his own. With all of these players it's the same, give them four years to grow and develop in high school and we will see just how good they can become.

Sean Tam

Tam was arguably the top performer as a hitter for the event, he had both the highest max and average exit velocity with 87.3 mph and 84.6 mph and hit 75% line drives. His BP round was extremely impressive. He also threw 76 mph across the infield from short.

Sione Tulua can in a close second to Sean Tam with his hitting metrics. A matched 87.3 max exit velocity with a 83.1 average. Tulua was launching balls with his average distance being 272 ft with a max of 315 ft. He threw 75 mph across the diamond and had a 2.18-2.25 pop time with a catcher velocity of 70.
