SEASON OUTLOOK

The 2018 Cardinals will look to reload this spring after sending nine players on to college baseball a season ago. Collinsville will return two position starters and two arms that threw over 15 innings a piece for them a year ago. Though there may not be excessive amounts of varsity experience, the cupboard will not be bare, as many of the the newcomers to the varsity team are already highly ranked in their class.

Offensively, the senior Alex Austin will lead the way from the heart of the order as a power bat that will look to fill up the doubles and RBI stat column. Break out junior Hayden Minton will also likely land somewhere in the middle as a left-handed bat with some leverage. Cale Hutchins will be somewhere at the top for the cardinals as an above average runner who could hit for a high average. Sophomore Peyton Russell could be another weapon in the dynamic order.

On the mound, three of the athletes who will be asked to carry the load offensively will also throw the bulk of the innings. Austin will bring experience as he looks to build on his numbers from last year while Minton will bring high-end stuff every time he toes the rubber, both from the right-side. Hutchins will make a nice left-handed addition and round out the rotation. Kenlee Hall could also factor in as well.

Defensively, the left side of the infield should be very solid with Minton and Issac Webb leading the way.
