OK Winter Open Analysis: Pitchers

The OK Winter Open took place on Dec. 20th at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility in Tulsa OK. With a limited number of 20 players to easily maintain social distancing, the event still featured some standout young talent. Carson Beam 1B / RHP / Heritage Hall, OK / 2024

Carson Beam: 1B/RHP, (2024) Heritage Hall, OK. 6-foot-3, 180-pound advanced frame. Used a short arm action and a high ¾ arm angle while showing quick arm speed. Up-tempo type pitcher who shows some effort. Displays even shoulders with low balance point. Lands square with an upright finish. Fastball has some command and slight arm-side action at 75-77 mph. Has sweeping action and sporadic command on his 10/4 curveball at 60 mph . Showed some control on his tight slider at 63-67 mph.

Eli Buxton RHP / 1B / Charles Page, OK / 2024

Eli Buxton: RHP/1B, (2024) Charles Page, OK. 6-foot-2, 165-pound long and lean frame. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. Lands square with an athletic finish. Arm action has moderate length in the back before getting high early and pulling through a high-3/4 slot. Fastball has cutting action and glove side control. Threw a 10/4 slider with glove side control and late action. His changeup shows command low in the zone and fading action.

Ashton Hartwig OF / LHP / Deer Creek, OK / 2024

Used a long arm action with a high ¾ arm angle while showing some arm speed. Up-tempo type pitcher and uses some effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with a clean finish. Shows control in the zone with a fastball that keeps its plane at78-80 mph. Threw a 1/7 curveball with command low in the zone and gradual action at 65-66 mph. Changeup shows some fade at 69-70 mph.

Hank Horton LHP / 1B / Broken Arrow, OK / 2023

Hank Horton: LHP/1B, (2023) Broken Arrow, OK. 6-foot-4, 185-pound. Showing some arm speed he used a long arm action with an over-the-top arm angle. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who uses some effort. Balance point is tall with uphill shoulders during delivery. Lands square with a clean finish. Shows some command with a fastball that keeps its plane at 73-75. His 1/7 curveball shows early action and up in the zone control at 62-63 mph. His flat changeup showed cutting action and low in the zone control 66-67 mph.

Devin Mitchell OF / 1B / Edmond Santa Fe, OK / 2023

Devin Mitchell: OF/1B, (2023) Edmond Santa Fe, OK. 6-foot-1, 180-pound. Showed some arm speed with a long arm action and an over-the-top arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows some effort. Has athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Shows control low in the zone with a fastball that keeps its plane at 81-82 mph. Has control low in the zone and tight action on his 11/5 curveball 65-68 mph. Shows command low in the zone and cutting action on his 10/4 slider 74-75 . Has fading action and is in the zone with his knuckleball 65-66 mph.

Cooper Moore RHP / C / Bixby, OK / 2023

Cooper Moore: C/SS, (2023) Bixby, OK. 5-foot-11, 165-pound with length. Used a short arm action and a high ¾ arm angle while showing quick arm speed. Shows some effort in his delivery. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball shows heavy running action and arm side control. His 11/5 curveball has late action and some control.

Ethan Moore RHP / 1B / Booker T. Washington, OK / 2023

Ethan Moore: RHP/1B, (2023) Booker T. Washington, OK. 6-foot-2, 225-pound advanced muscular frame. Used a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle while showing some arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. Has low balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with an upright finish. Fastball shows control around the zone and running action at 75-77 touching 78 mph. Threw a 10/4 curveball with up in the zone control and early action at 62-71 mph. Threw a flat changeup up in the zone at 70 mph.

Trystin Pauls OF / RHP / N/A, OK / 2021

Trystin Pauls: OF/RHP, (2021) Home School, OK. 6-foot-2, 185-pound long, lean, and projectable frame. Showed some arm speed with a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Controlled delivery uses some effort. He has even shoulders with low balance point. Shows a falling off finish. Fastball has a flat fastball that shows some control up in the zone and running action at 81-83 mph touching 84. His changeup shows cutting action and sporadic command at 75-76 mph. Throws a 11/5 curveball with control low in the zone and late action.

Parker Souter LHP / Bishop Kelley, OK / 2021

Parker Souter: LHP, (2021) Bishop Kelley, OK. 5-foot-10, 155-pound. Showed a short arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with some arm speed. Showed some effort in his delivery. Showed even shoulders. Lands square and balanced. Fastball has cutting action and advanced glove side command at 78-80 touching 81 mph. Shows control and fading action on his changeup at 74 mph. Throws a 1/7 curveball with sweeping action and low in the zone command at 69 mph.

Cale Wetwiska OF / 3B / Bethany, OK / 2023

Cale Wetwiska: OF/3B, (2023) Bethany, OK. 6-foot-1, 167-pound lean frame with some strength and room to add more. Had an over-the-top arm angle and a long arm action with some arm speed. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who shows easy effort. Showed tall balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with an upright finish. Fastball has slight action and some command at 77-79 mph. Threw a 11/5 curveball that showed gradual action and up in the zone control at 65-66 mph. His changeup shows in the zone command and swing and miss action at 70-72 mph.
