Ohio Spotlight Game: D-II Regional Final - #8 Canfield vs #17 Tallmadge

HUDSON – #17 Tallmadge punched their ticket to the D-II final four with a 3-2 victory over #8 Canfield. Small ball proved to be the key to their success.

The Cardinals got on the board early.

2018 LHP Ian McGraw helped himself out with an RBI single in the top of the first. However, Tallmadge answered back with two of their own thanks to an RBI single from Josh Taylor and an error.

With the bases loaded, 2019 Canfield OF Dom Pilolli walked to retie the game at two a piece in the top of the second.

Both starting pitchers 2018 Jared Burick (No. 78) and Ian McGraw then settled in, each scattering walks and hits.

A suicide squeeze by 2018 INF Zach Boyd (No. 85) was the difference maker for the Blue Devils. He executed the squeeze play in the bottom of the 5th to bring the eventual winning run Phillip Glasser across the plate.

Tallmadge took control of the game after the Boyd suicide squeeze. 2018 RHP Mikah McGlaughlin came in for Burick and picked up a five out save. The win makes Burick now 9-1 on the season.

The Blue Devils as a team are now 23-6 and will play Maumee (21-8) in the D-II State Semifinals.
