Ohio Unsigned Senior Games: Team 2 Player Analysis

The PBR Ohio Unsigned Senior Games was held at The Ohio State University. With over 120 players participating, schools from Ohio and surrounding states gathered to evaluate the talent. Already, Marysville RHP Jarod Yoakam committed to the University of Cincinnati,Massillon Jackson LHP Sam Williams committed to Eastern Kentucky, and Troy RHP Zachary Kendall as well as Bishop Ready catcher Hunter Clanin both committed to Bowling Green. Adam Wroblewski, LHP, Edison HS, 2014

6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect with strong, athletic build and wide shoulders. Throws through ¾ arm slot with short arm action. Shows some quickness in his arm speed. Fastball sat at 81-84 mph with some cutting action. Breaking ball showed spin at 71-72 mph while changeup was thrown near fastball arm speed, but lacked good differential at 78 mph. Will improve velocity and consistency as direction improves within his delivery. Interesting prospect with good potential due to his size.

Ben Laumann, SS/2B, Oak Hills, 2014

5-foot-10, 160-pound middle infield prospect with athletic frame. Uses short arm action from ¾ arm slot. Slingy type action. Reached a top velocity of 81 mph across the infield. Showed good lateral movement in game play with the ability to cover ground. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Uses a short stride with minimal upper half load. Contact type hitter with short, level path to the ball. Opposite field production in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 4.52 out of the box.

Brandon Boggs, RHP/1B, South Point HS, 2014

6-foot-5, 265-pound prospect with big, physical frame. Projects best on the mound. Fastball showed some run at 80-82 mph. Filled up the zone with strikes. Relied on a 65-66 mph breaking ball with 11/5 movement down in the zone for strikes. Defensively, he showed good footwork for his size around first. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph on his throws, but needs to shorten his transfer. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a short stride with level path to the baseball. Line drive type production. Registered top exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 5.42 out of the box.

Brody Basilone, RHP/OF, Lexington HS, 2014

6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect with tall, athletic frame. Shows potential as two-way prospect. On the mound, he sat at 84-86 mph from a high ¾ arm slot. Shows average arm speed and long arm action. Delivery requires some effort. Showed a 71-73 mph breaking ball with 11/5 movement down in the zone. Tends to slow down his arm speed on the pitch. Changeup has some sink at 76-77 mph. Also used a 73 mph splitfinger fastball. In the outfield, he projects as a corner type. Reached a top velocity of 82 mph. Plays through the baseball but shows average foot speed. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed opposite field production in his swing. Uses a short stride and slight uphill path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee. Ran a 4.52 out of the box.

Chris Seibert, LHP, Hudson HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 163-pound southpaw with average, athletic frame. Throws through high ¾ arm slot with short arm action and average arm speed. Fastball showed slight cutting action at 72-73 mph. Used a 63-65 mph breaking ball with gradual 1/7 action.

Connor Golden, LHP/OF, DeSales HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect with average, athletic frame. Showed best as a position player on this occasion. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 82 mph. Corner type guy with average feet and hands. At the plate, he starts in an athletic, open stance. Uses a short stride with minimal upper half load. Shows some quickness in his hands. Registered top exit velocity of 83 mph. Slight uphill path to the ball. Ran a 4.63 out of the box. On the mound, the lefty throws from a ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. Fastball showed some natural cut at 77-78 mph. Tended to be up in the zone. Also used a 67 mph breaking ball with gradual 1/7 action.

Douglas Weigand, IF/RHP, Dallas Jesuit HS (TX), 2014

5-foot-11, 160-pound prospect with thin frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Average hands and feet. Top velocity of 70 mph across the diamond. At the plate, he uses a tall, open stance from the right side. Uses a short stride with choppy rhythm to his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 70 mph. Ran a 4.93 out of the box. On the mound, the righty throws with average arm speed through a high ¾ slot. Fastball was straight at 77-81 mph and breaking ball showed gradual 11/5 movement for strikes at 62-63 mph.

Eric Jordan, LHP, Lima Bath HS, 2014

5-foot-10, 165-pound southpaw. Throws with short arm action through ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. Wasn’t over powering, but consistently missed bats. Locates all of his pitches. Fastball sat 77-79 mph with cut down in the zone. Uses a 62-65 mph breaking ball with gradual 2/8 break. Also showed a 70 mph changed up thrown near fastball arm speed with some fade.

Gino DiVincenzo, 2B, Cardinal Mooney HS, 2014

5-foot-8, 160-pound second baseman with small, solid frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ to over the top slot. Reached top velocity of 77 mph across the infield. Shows fluid footwork and some softness in his hands. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance from the right side. Elbow starts high before his load. Overall, compact swing with slight uphill path. Registered top exit velocity of 82 mph off the tee. Ran a 4.8 out of the box.

Damien Richard, RHP/OF, Versailles HS, 2014

6-foot-3, 178-pound outfielder with tall, athletic frame. From the outfield, he reached a top velocity of 81 mph without a crowhop. Uses short arm action. Needs to improve receiving the ball and playing through it. Projects as a corner type. At the plate, he starts in a wide crouch. Uses a short stride. Shows some quickness in his bat speed. Pull tendencies in his swing. Registered a top exit velocity of 95 mph off the tee. Ran a 4.72 out of the box. On the mound, he throws from over the top arm slot with short arm action. Fastball is straight at 81-83 mph. Breaking ball shows good depth and 12/6 movement at 68-69 mph. Locates the pitch consistently down in the zone.

David Mohr, RHP, Huber Heights Wayne HS, 2014

6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher with tall, lean build. Throws through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Uses short arm action and average arm speed. Uses a small stride for his size. Fastball was straight at 71-74 mph. Used a 60-61 mph breaking ball with gradual 12/6 movement.

Hunter Clanin, C, Bishop Ready HS, 2014

6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect with big, physical frame. Committed to Bowling Green Shortly after the event. From the crouch, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 81 mph with excellent arm strength and a top pop time of 1.96. Needs to improve setup and glove work for the next level. At the plate, he starts in a tall, open stance. Uses a short stride. Hands drop in his load. Shows quickness in his swing. Registered a top exit velocity of 86 mph. Pull tendencies in his swing with power potential. Ran a 4.62 out of the box.

Jack Goodwin, 3B, Rock Hill HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 195-pound third baseman with solid, thick frame and strong lower half. Uses short arm action through over the top arm slot. Reached top velocity of 75 mph across the infield. Aggressive to the ball. Needs to keep improving his glovework. At the plate, he starts in a crouch with a slightly open stance. Aggressive swing. Shows some quickness in his bat. Registered top exit velocity of 91 mph. Line drive production with pull power. Ran a 4.69 out of the box.

Jacob Miller, OF/3B, Pickerington North HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 190-pound prospect with average, thick frame. From the outfield, he reached a top velocity of 77 mph. Uses short arm action and shows some quickness in his transfer. In the infield, he reached a top velocity of 75. Feet tend to be flat and fields the ball deep. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in an open stance. Wraps in his load. Takes level path to the baseball. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee. Ran a 4.98 out of the box.

Jared Williams, SS/2B, Conner (KY), 2014

6-foot, 170-pound middle infield prospect with good, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 73 mph. Showed some athleticism in the field. Switch hitter. From the right side, starts open. Uses a leg kick. Shows some quickness in his bat. Pull power. From the left side, starts open as well. Uses a leg kick. Good bat speed. Opposite field tendencies.

Joe Cunningham, RHP, Cardinal Mooney HS, 2014

6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher with athletic frame. Throws with average arm speed through ¾ arm slot. Delivery requires regular effort. Fastabll is straight at 79-81 mph. Breaking ball shows gradual 12/6 movement at 63-66 mph. Needs to maintain arm speed with the pitch. Also shows a 69 mph changeup with some arm side run.

Josh Evans, C/RHP, Fisher Catholic HS, 2014

6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect with big, athletic frame. Behind the plate, he used short arm action through a ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 76. Gets high in his crouch. Pop times between 2.00 to 2.01. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in an athletic stance. Minimal upper half load to his swing. Hands tend to drop in his load and back foot gains ground. Strong kid with potential for power as his swing improves. Registered top exit velocity of 88 mph off the tee. Ran a 5.02 out of the box. On the mound, he threw through a ¾ arm slot with short arm action. Fastball showed a little sink at 78-81 mph. Relied on a 62-63 mph breaking ball with gradual 11/5 movement. Shows raw potential at this point with good size.

Josh Petersen, RHP, Patrick Henry HS, 2014

6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher with strong, athletic frame. Shows long arm action with some quickness through a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat at 84-86 mph with some arm side run. Breaking ball showed potential at 68-70 mph. When he stayed on top of the pitch, he generated 11/5 movement with good depth. Changeup sat at 72 mph. Tendency to slow down his arm speed on the pitch.

Mitch Nini, IF, Upper Arlington HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 155-pound infield prospect with average, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 77 mph. Shows some softness in his hands and his feet work. Gets rid of the ball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts from a wide stance. Uses a leg kick in his stride. Minimal upper half load. Contact hitter that doesn’t show much loft in his swing. Registered a top exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 4.68 out of the box.

Nathan Arnett, C/3B, Lucasville Valley HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect with strong, physical frame. At third base, he throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Showed top velocity of 75 mph across the diamond. Average footwork. Behind the plate, he throws from a ¾ slot. Shows some length to his exchange. Reached top velocity of 73 and pop times between 2.06 to 2.10. At the plate, he starts in a tall stance from the right side. Minimal upper half load. Slight uphill path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph. Choppy type rhythm to his swing. Ran a 4.85 out of the box.

Nathan Coffey, RHP, Bellbrook HS, 2014

6-foot-5, 210-pound right-handed pitcher. Uses long arm action with average arm speed through high ¾ slot. Delivery requires regular effort. A bit raw with good upside. Needs to keep his lower half moving. Fastball sat at 80-82 mph. Breaking ball showed potential at times between 69-73 mph. Also showed a developing 76 mph changeup thrown near fastball arm speed.

Nick Wiseman, OF, Northeastern HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 175-pound outfield prospect with athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Shows some length to his transfer. Throws uphill. Reached top velocity of 79 mph. Plays through the baseball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in a crouch. Tends to rise in his swing. Uses a leg kick in his stride. Shows some quickness in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 81 mph. Shows some pop in his bat. Ran a 4.56 out of the box.

Sam Hardin, C/RHP, Elgin HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 168-pound catching prospect with athletic frame. Uses short arm action. Simple, compact transfer. Pop times between 2.10 to 2.12. Reached top velocity of 72 mph from the crouch. At the plate, he starts slightly open. Uses a short stride. Will improve with enhanced use of his lower half. Line drive production in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 78 mph. Ran a 4.76 out of the box. On the mound, he throws through high ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. Fastball is straight at 77-78 mph. Showed command of 65 mph breaking ball with gradual 12/6 movement down in the zone.

Sam Montgomery, OF/2B, Bishop Hartley HS, 2014

5-foot-9, 145-pound prospect with thin, athletic frame. Speed type guy. From the outfield, he shows accuracy with carry to his throws. Reached a top velocity of 82 mph. Athletic actions and plays through the ball. At the plate, he starts with an open stance from the right side. Uses a leg kick. Swing involves several moving parts, but manages to square up the baseball. Pull tendencies. Will need to simplify at the next level. Aggressive baserunner that knows how to utilize his top end speed. Ran a 4.57 out of the box. Registered a 6.58 60 at previous event.

Steven Asbury, 3B/1B, Watkins Memorial HS, 2014

5-foot-9, 190-pound prospect with solid frame and strong lower half.  Suited for the corners at the next level. His best tool is his bat. Uses an open stance. Tends to bar his arm in his load, which creates some length. Shows good use of his lower half. Quick hands in the zone. Registered top exit velocity of 88 mph off the tee. Uphill path to the ball. With small mechanical fixes, he will take advantage of his strength. Ran a 4.74 out of the box. In the field, he shows short arm action through a high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 79 mph across the infield. Average hands and feet.

Zach Baumann, OF, Gahanna Lincoln HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect with athletic frame. From the outfield, uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Throws uphill. Reached top velocity of 76 mph. Athletic actions and plays through the ball. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts with a wide, slight open stance. Uses a short stride. Short, slight uphill path to the ball. Contact type hitter with fluid rhythm to his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 4.62 out of the box.

Sean Clayton, 1B, Syacamore HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 220-pound first baseman with strong lower half and solid frame. Uses short arm action on his throws. Average feet and exchange. Top velocity of 63 mph across the diamond. At the plate, the left-handed hitter shows balance in his swing. Uses a short stride with good use of his lower half. Aggressive type hitter with slight uphill path and pull tendencies in his swing. Shows power potential. Registered top exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 4.95 out of the box.

Trey Willard, RHP/OF, St. Charles HS, 2014

5-foot-9, 190-pound prospect with solid, physical frame. Uses long arm action and throws uphill. Reached top velocity of 80 mph. Corner outfield type. At the plate, he starts in a wide stance with a bit of a crouch. Uses a short stride. Maintains balance in his swing with a fluid rhythm. Line drive type production. Registered top exit velocity of 77 mph off the tee. Ran a 4.4 out of the box. On the mound, he throws with long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Fastball is straight at 77-80 mph. Breaking ball shows soft, 11/5 action at 65-66 mph.
