Oliveri shines, Faynor touches them all and Harisis rakes in opening night action from the Upstate Baseball League



DI-Witorski 7 DI-Bunting 3

Robert Oliveri needed just 33 pitches to complete three shutout innings, and DI Witorski downed DI Bunting, 7-3 in opening night action of the Upstate Baseball League at the University of Rochester, Monday. Oliveri struck out six, walked none and allowed just one hit. The Hilton Cadet used a fastball/curveball mix down in the zone to keep the opposition off-balance. The right-hander threw 25 strikes and faced one over the minimum. Jason Faynor broke open a 3-3 game with a two-out, two-run inside the park home run. Andrew Sanchez scored from first on Faynor’s shot into the right center gap. Sanchez finished 2-for-3 on the night and drove in DI-Witkorski’s second run of the night with a Baltimore Chop over the third baseman’s head to score Ryan Lukas. Drew Delaney went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Raymond Specht crossed the plate twice. John Faynor hurled 2.1 shutout innings of relief in the win. Sam Lammes highlighted a three-run DI-Bunting fifth with an opposite field two-run single. Lammes drove in Lucas DeVito and Perry Wheeler II with a two-out single to right. Max Yale (Honeoye) started for DI Bunting and allowed one run on three hits over three innings of work.   

 

DI-Graham 2 DI-Christiano 2
Shane Harisis collected a pair of hits including a one-out triple in the fifth as DI-Graham and DI-Christiano finished tied, 2-2 in Upstate Baseball League action at the University of Rochester, Monday night. Harisis connected on a shot into the left center gap and scored on a Dylan Mackenzie infield single to give DI-Graham what would be a short-lived 2-1 edge. Tommy Baxter gave the game its final count n the sixth inning when he brought home Austin Avanzato with a one-out single through the right side of the infield.  Avanzato reached with a one-out base hit and moved to second when the throw to get him on a stolen base attempt was mishandled. Nick Vogt plated Ryan Hill with a single in the third for a 1-0 DI-Graham lead. DI-Christiano starter, Jake Loewke helped his own cause when he brought home Nate Sanderson with a single in the fifth. Loewke allowed one run on three over four innings of work. Maxx Countryman opposed Loewke and surrendered just one hit over three shutout innings. Alex Savory worked a scoreless inning of relief.

 

Game Notes: Countryman threw the first pitch in Upstate Baseball League history. It was a ball low and outside to catcher, Steven Holko. Alex Lynah was the home plate umpire. Hill’s run in the third was also a first. Sam Velletri, Baxter and Nate Sanderson turned the league’s first double play – a 4-6-3 GDP to end the first inning. Harisis collected the first hit a two-out single through the left side in the second. Avanzato collected the first stolen base.
