Last Chance Preview- Downstate (November 18, 2018)

Ruzich measures in at 6-foot-2, 152 pounds with a lean, athletic body.  Ran a 7.09 60 yard dash time. Offensively- Right handed hitter, sets up square to the pitcher with his feet just outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat out in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick knee raise into the body before striding forward while his hands move back quickly. Utilizes lower body rotation clearing the hips and getting the whole-body frame involved in the swing. Has quick hands to the hitting zone with an upward lift barrel action throughout into a high one-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage with good gap to gap power to all fields. Recorded an exit velocity of 79 MPH. Would like to see Ruzich to be more fluid start to finish but skills are there. Defensively- Fluid approach with controlled footwork getting to the baseball. Shows good fielding mechanics funneling the ball into the chest and a quick transition to the throwing position. Has aggressive footwork towards intended target and is accurate with throws. Moves well laterally and in on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 78 MPH.

Campus Series-Marist (July 25, 2017) 

Ruzich checks in at 6-foot-2, 150-pounds with a tall, lean athletic frame. Offensively- Righty shows a level barrel path making consistent contact driving the ball up the middle and to the pull side. Features a distinct trigger with an early load with the hand prior to striding forward. Cleaning up the trigger with better timing will clean up the swing and make the barrel get into the hitting zone more consistently. Recorded an exit velocity of 75 MPH. Defensively- Shows good fielding mechanics with a good funnel into the chest and a quick transition to the throwing hand. Could use a better approach to the ball to go and get it rather than sit back. Whole fielding process could be quicker which will come with more development and added strength. Recorded a positional arm velocity 78 MPH. Pitching- Righty shows smooth mechanics with a high ¾ release point. Features a good separation but could use more lower body to assist in driving down the mound. Fastball range was 72-73 MPH and peaked at 74 MPH with arm side run. Curveball range was 62-64 MPH with 12/6 action and was consistent in the strike zone. Change up range was 64-65 MPH with arm side sink and will need more development to create a larger velocity off the fastball.

WHAT TO EXPECT

"Ruzich flashes some raw tools and instincts; aggressive defender whose arm works from the left side of the infield but shows enough athleticism/foot speed that could carry to a corner outfield position if need be. Still developing on the mound but a bump in velocity could happen as his frame and actions can support it. Fast twitch actions at the plate that could be harnessed into a controlled, explosive swing. Looking forward to seeing Ruzich's progress on Feb. 11th."
