Ontario Prospect of the Week - Nyles Duren

Prospect Update: Duren is one of the top players in the Windsor Selects organization and coming into his senior year, one of the top uncommitted prospects in the 2019 class. The right-handed hitting shortstop made strength gains over the year and it has started to show at the plate, where the bat speed has increased, adding a little more juice in the bat of Duren. There is arm strength defensively in the 6-foot-3, 200-pound infielder as he was 84 mph across the diamond on a cold and rainy day this past fall, there is room to polish his glove actions and footwork, and not hard to envision Duren moving to third base at the next level. Duren is currently receiving interest from schools and wouldn’t be surprised if he gets scooped up sooner than later during the recruiting process.

2019 Projection: Duren looks to continue being a go-to guy for the Selects as they should be one of the top teams at the 18u level in the PBLO this upcoming season. His bat will continue to play in the middle of the order and be someone to ignite the offense and also drive in runs. He will most likely see most of his time at shortstop, but can play third base and we also saw at the Selects scout day that he can jump on the mound in a pinch and be a serviceable arm that was low 80’s with a curveball. Look for Duren to be committed with even more strength added and step or two quicker. Nice looking ball player with athletic action and tools to work with.
