Ontario Spotlight Game: GLC 16U vs OBJ 16U

Dorchester – A doubleheader between two of Ontario’s top baseball clubs was scheduled for Saturday afternoon, and although Game Two was rained out, the first match-up was definitely an exciting one. From the pitching match-ups to all of the talent on the field, the lone game on the day was action-packed all the way until the final out as the Ontario Blue Jays came away with the 8-4 victory.

Uncommitted 2018 and the #2 prospect in his class, Eric Cerantola took the mound for the Canadians. Despite showing glimpses of the sharpness that has come to be expected from the 6-foot-5 right-hander, Saturday was a bit of a struggle for Cerantola who had command issues throughout his four innings of work.

After exchanging runs in the first inning, the Ontario Blue Jays took advantage of four third inning walks to cash in three runs. They would add one more run in the fourth inning behind 2018 catcher Blake Buckle’s second RBI of the ballgame. The Canadians would edge closer the following inning after back-to-back two out hits from Spencer Marcus and Derek Smith to come within three runs of the Jays.

The Blue Jays would pull away for good in the final inning. After adding a sixth run on a throwing error, Arthur Kowara crushed a two-run home-run over the left field fence to give the Jays an 8-2 lead. The Canadians wouldn’t go away quietly as the bottom of the GLC order generated two runs behind a Jackson Wahl double, but would ultimately lose 8-4.

Lukas Barry, currently ranked #4 prospect in the 2019 Ontario class pitched a stellar game for the Ontario Blue Jays. Locating his fastball and working in his secondary stuff to keep hitters off balance, Barry punched out 9 hitters while only walking 1 on his way to a complete game, 104 pitch victory.
