game 2 recap

vs PBR NEvada

Our 2nd game down at LakePoint brought a familiar sight to the boys from the Pacific Northwest as we were hit with a big rain delay after 1 complete inning of play. In addition to the rain, nearby lightning strikes forced everyone off of the field and we experienced about a 2 hour delay for game action.

Before the rains came, ‘24 SS/RHP Tyler Jones (Woodinville) got the start on the bump and continued to flash his exciting upside and tools. Running the FB up to 85 and pitching in the 82-84 range. Also mixed in his CB at 69-71 and CH in the mid 70s. With his tall frame and clean arm stroke, it’s easy to dream on more velo coming soon from Jones and he should be a productive 2-way prospect for years to come at Woodinville.

Out of the delay, PNW got 2 strong relief appearances from ‘23 C Nathan Davis (Sunset) and ‘24 C Luke Klooster (O’Dea). Normally backstops, the 2 versatile athletes showed off their arm talent and body control with quick, clean innings. Klooster ran it up to 85, which is the hardest we’ve seen the rising FR throw so far. While Davis worked 78-81 with easy efficiency and got 3 outs on less than 10 pitches.

After the PNW arms finished up, we were treated to a pitching clinic from 2 high-end prospects in the 2024 class from Georgia. ‘24 SS/RHP Rustan Rigdan and ‘24 RHP Thorpe Musci (Parkview, GA) combined to go 4 scoreless. Rigdan has the athleticism and body control you’d expect to see from a SS. Moving easily down the slope with a soft landing and explosive arm action out front. Pitches comfortably at 83-87 with consistent feel/command spin. Exciting 2-way prospect. Musci is a completely different profile than Rigdan and offers impressive upside of his own. Already with present strength, Musci was up to 90 mph with a heavy FB and worked between 87-90 in his 2 innings. Also showed a tight, swing and miss slider at 78-80 and power CH at 83. Pitches with a quiet competitive fire and keeps his poise.

Offensively, PNW capitalized on some free passes early on in the game and jumped out to a 3-1 lead before the rain took over. After that, things got started with yet another hit from ‘24 C Nathan Woodside (Woodinville). Then with him on base, Klooster delivered a big 2-R HR to LCF to break the game open a bit.

From there, even though PNW had secured a win, they were still able to swing in the bottom of the 7th due to the showcase format of the games. ‘23 C Brock Leitgeb (Jesuit,OR) started things off with a scorched double past the LF’er and would eventually come around to score on a passed ball.

The offense continued to make the extra ABs count, tacking on more runs thanks in large part to a massive 2-R HR from ‘23 OF Keegan Agen (Marysville Getchell). Agen scored ‘23 INF/RHP Terry Hayes Jr (Liberty) after Hayes reached base on a clean single in his AB.

It was a great overall performance from start to finish under some difficult weather circumstances and the first victory captured by the PNW roster at the PBR Future Games as PNW won by a final of 8-2.
