Quick Hits - Spokane Summer Open

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

On Wednesday, June 28th we were over on the east side for the first time this summer for the Spokane Summer Open.

For most in the baseball world the summer schedule is as hectic as it gets. From scouts to coaches to players, everyone is traveling the country looking for the best experiences possible and many are trying to navigate the landscape to put themselves in the best possible situation to #BeSeen.

Our Summer Tour of open showcases takes the approach of making it easier for the player to find a local event, open to all grad classes and skill levels, and providing the opportunity to get in front of our scouts during the hectic schedule of summer baseball, keeping their PBR Profile as current as possible.

The Summer Tour of open events also leads to identifying prospects for some of the summer’s biggest invite only events like Top Prospect, Future Games, State Games and more.

With batting practice, bullpens and defense, summer events allow athletes to show off their progress and development from the off-season and present the most up-to-date information on themselves.

Quick Hits is a recap of some of the top performances that stood out to us on Saturday. It is not a ranking or top prospect list. Additional content including statistical leaders will be coming out as well. Prospects are listed in alphabetical order.

QUICK HITS

spokane summer open

‘26 SS Caden Andreas (Ridgeline) - Athletic MINF prospect with some twitch in his game and above average speed. 6.99 runner in the 60 with burst at the start. Andreas looks poised to be a top name to watch in the ‘26 class for INF prospects. Defensively he had a crisp workout at SS with light, easy footwork and a speedy exchange into his throwing motion. Quick release with carry across the diamond. At the plate it’s a middle, middle approach with barrel control and line drive contact

‘24 OF/RHP David Barnes (Mead) - 2-way prospect with arm strength being a major carrying tool. Barnes has proportional strength throughout his frame and carries it well. He’s a quality runner with a 7.05 in the 60 and quickness out of the gate. From the OF, he ripped down throws up to 89 mph with true ball flight and accuracy. Offensively there’s compact strength and pull-side power. On the mound, he sat 87-88 with a live FB from a clean, continuous arm stroke. Strength gives him a strong decel out front at release with balance and extension. Throws a firm, tight SL as main secondary offering.

‘24 OF Henry Douglas (Tri-Cities Prep) - Put together a balanced workout as a 2-way prospect with his ability to play OF as well as throw on the mound. L/L skill-set is always a desirable trait and Douglas fits that profile. Solid actions on defense with an easy transition into his throws. Offensively it’s a balanced, simple approach with limited moving parts. Allows the barrel to work easily and covers plenty of depth in the zone. Flashed 3 pitch mix on the mound with FB/CB/CH arsenal
‘24 OF Samuel Moore (Mead) - 6’1, 185 lb athlete with an above average arm and speed to cover ground in the OF. Powerfully built runner with rangy strides once he gets underway. Showed 1st step quickness in the OF with closing speed. Up to 88 mph with his throws. At the plate, has the ability to switch hit and produce gap to gap power from both sides of the plate. Strong, quick wrists in the swing with easy bat speed.

‘25 SS/RHP Cody O’Donnell (Eastlake) - 2-way prospect to watch in the ‘25 class. Strong bodied at 6’0, 185 with clean actions and body control. Defensively, plays low on the dirt for a taller athlete with momentum through the play and solid rhythm. Arm strength plays from the left side with throws up to 80 mph. Offensively he consistently impacted the ball with a peak EV of 91.5 mph and held an impressive average of 86.2 on all hit balls. Arm talent shows on the mound as he commands a FB at 80-82 with a CB/SL/CH repertoire.

‘26 OF/RHP Kyle Rayment (Mt. Spokane) - One of the more projectable 2-way talents we’ve been able to see in the ‘26 class so far. Wiry, lean athlete at 6’3, 165. Runs well with a 7.1 in the 60 and easy strides underway. Arm was up to 87 mph from the OF and at the plate he can really move through his core easily and produce line drive contact. Peak EV of 90.2. On the mound, the arm talent has a high ceiling as the FB ranged 84.5 - 85.4 with life and carry in the top of the zone. Shapes a hard, downer SL as main secondary. Over time, athleticism and strength should tighten up the delivery and help him make a significant jump with his pure stuff.

‘24 RHP Caleb Sherfey (Tri-Cities Prep) - Polished, mature pitching prospect with noticeable feel for multiple offerings and consistent command of the zone. Sherfey has a long, full arm path with a smooth release and low maintenance delivery. Stays balanced throughout with controlled, late intent. FB works to all parts of the zone, pitched 82-83 on this look with a sharp CB, fading CH and a useable knuckleball to round out his arsenal.

‘26 SS Chris Wilson (Cheney) - Quietly had an extremely well-rounded performance and showed a balanced skill-set as an INF prospect. Quick runner with some agility out of the gate and quick lateral movement on defense. Moves through the play at a controlled speed while keeping control of his glove hand. Clean arm with carry across the diamond. Offensively starts with high hands and works direct to the ball with a shorter, abbreviated decel after contact. Likely more power on the way as he can potentially get some added extension down the road.

‘24 SS Brady Wulf (Brewster) - 6’1, 160 lbs with a tall, lanky frame and lean strength. Showed present ability with projection still left to grow into as he fills out his frame. Sure handed defender at SS with controlled rhythm through the play. Loose arm action from lower slot. Offensively has more of a line drive approach now but the swing path and leverage could develop into more power down the road. On the mound, pitches with a tight arm a circle and has a loose finish out front with hand speed. FB/CB/CH arsenal.
