PBR Future Games: Wisconsin Workout Day
August 1, 2018
Day One of the Future Games is in the books. The PBR Future Games traditionally kicks off with a marathon of a workout day, where every position player in attendance goes through a showcase style workout, to collect stats, data and videos. Here’s a look at some highlights from Wisconsin.
Corner infielders kicked off the day, and the bat of Max Wagner (Green Bay Preble) definitely opened some eyes. Wagner consistently laced balls into the gap, posted a 96 mph exit velocity and caught the attention of our National Crosschecker, Shooter Hunt.

Wagner added a 6.91 60 yard dash to his resume, eclipsing that elusive 7.0 mark and proved to be a well-above average defender at third base. His strong build and feel for the barrel will likely make Wagner’s at bats a must see this weekend.
Sun Prairie’s Joe Hauser stands out on the baseball field, and at a strong 6-foot-1, 190-pounds Hauser ran one of the better Wisconsin 60’s at 6.76. Combo that with a bat that compares nicely with Wagner, and Hauser is making a case for himself as a versatile defender with a bat that projects to the middle of a lineup at the next level.
Middle infield play followed, and highlighted by the plus speed of TJ Manteufel (Union Grove). Mateufel ran a Wisconsin best 6.60 which also put him in the top 20 runners of the day across all states and all positions.
Manteufel took the footspeed to the infield where he showed light on his feet actions that will stay in the middle of the diamond.
Left-handed hitter Eddie Saucedo (Oregon) took one of the better rounds of BP. His short, simple, repeatable stroke peppered line drives to the middle of the field with consistent hard contact off the barrel.
Taiten Manriquez (Waunakee) showed the best arm of the bunch at 86 mph across the diamond while posting a 6.83 in the 60. Manriquez will also be one to watch on the mound this weekend.
All of Wisconsin’s outfielders posted sub 7.0 60s in today’s workout, led by Alex Ryan (Lakeside Lutheran) at 6.72, followed by Christopher Vandenheuvel (Xavier) at 6.76, Jack Heiring (Christian Life) at 6.85 and Mitchell Alba (Franklin) 6.94.
Alex Ryan put his quick twitch athleticism to use at the plate with a short loose swing that stays on top of the baseball and yielded several hard line drive to the pull side.
The catchers highlight arguable comes off the bat of Thomas Otto (Appleton North) who posted a 102 mph exit velocity from the tee. Tied for third best of all position players on the day. Otto carried it onto the field showing an aggressive approach that could go to both gaps with serious intent. Otto also posted the top Wisconsin pop time at 1.94.
