PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
CRANDELL: I chose DMACC because I connected with the coaching staff easily and I thought the family atmosphere was amazing. I also felt that they will help me improve my skills and help me reach my goal of playing at the highest level possible.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
CRANDELL: I visited Upper Iowa and Iowa Central Community College, and I considered multiple other Jucos, NAIA’s, Division 3’s, and Division 1 walk-on opportunities.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
CRANDELL: They saw me play in one of my regular season high school games, and then at the state semifinal game that I pitched. Also at the PBR showcase at Mount Mercy for 2020’s but by that time I had already visited just a matter of time until I decided.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
CRANDELL: I am relieved and happy I found the right place where I feel like I will improve even more.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
CRANDELL: I really enjoyed my visit, I got the chance to talk with some of the players and it just felt like I belonged there.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
CRANDELL: My parents have done so much for me throughout my entire life, especially my dad who has coached me on multiple teams.  My Johnston High School Coach, Michael Barta, who sacrifices so much time for us and it shows.  I also have to give a ton of credit to the Iowa Sticks and David Conrad for the recruiting advice and coaching.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
CRANDELL: My expectations for the recruiting process was to find a school with a competitive baseball program that would be a good fit for me.  The only part of the recruiting process that I felt was difficult was when it came down to making a decision, but I enjoyed establishing new relationships with many coaches.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
CRANDELL: Primarily as a RHP, however they don’t want me to stop hitting quite yet because they think I still have potential there.  I will play whatever position is needed for my team because I am very versatile.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
CRANDELL: Pitching a shutout game in the state semifinal against Dowling and ending my junior year with a 0.00 ERA.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
CRANDELL: I got the opportunity to pitch to a team in Indianapolis with multiple All-Americans and every guy was a D1 commit, so that was a humbling experience.  In the state of Iowa, the best player that I have competed against is Adam Brauch.  I have played with him a good portion of my career and I have faced him as a pitcher.  He is a hard out and as a pitcher I feel like I’ve done my job if I hold him to one hit in a game.
