PBR New England Spotlight Game: Amherst vs Saint Peter-Marian

This opening day matchup was pitching dominated by LHP Nathan Masteralexis and RHP Pat Gallagher, which saw the later coming out on top 2-1.

Masteralexis initially struggled to command his fastball, walking the leadoff hitter on five pitches, but managed to make big pitches in crucial spots.

However, the combined effort by Masteralexis (2017) and Wil Budington (2017) was not enough, as Amherst fell to Saint Peter-Marian by a run.

Saint Peter-Marian starter, Pat Gallagher, held Amherst in check and looked very polished for this early in the season, particularly with his fastball.

Saint Peter-Marian scored the game’s first run in the fourth inning on a Mason Montero RBI single and Amherst pushed across an equalizer in the bottom half of the inning, due to sloppy defense.

A Saint Peter-Marian rally in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the difference.  Matt Demma pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings for Saint Peter-Marian, as they persevered and notched their first victory of the season.
