Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce its North Carolina Player of the Year Award after the 2023 season generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

Luke Stevenson, Catcher, Wake Forest HS, 2023

 

Luke Stevenson led the Wake Forest Cougars to a 4A East Region Championship and a runner up finish in the 4A State Finals Series. The North Carolina signee put together a season to remember. The left handed hitting catcher put up impressive offensive numbers slugging 17 HRs with 11 2Bs and driving in 58 runs. To go along with the run production he provided he also hit .512 on the year, drawing 37 walks and only striking out 10 times. He put up these loud offensive numbers while being pitched around and pitched carefully throughout the season marked by other teams as the guy they didn’t want to beat them. Not only did he produce at the plate he provided leadership behind the plate and handled a pitching staff that put up impressive numbers as well while also shutting down opponents run game on the bases. 

Stevenson’s impressive year at the plate and defensively as well leading his team to the 3A State Finals has earned him the 2023 Prep Baseball Report North Carolina Player of the Year honors. 

Stevenson has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Brannon amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering games at diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of North Carolina.
