PBR OK Great Plains Summer Championships Scout Blog: Day 2 at ORU

We had a great day of baseball on day one here at the Great Plains Summer Championship. There was talent all over the field in both the 16U and 17U division on day 2. Below are our notes on top performers from the games at ORU. 

Game 1
Sandlot OKC Ubbenga vs Sandlot Tulsa Glad:1-0

Body Brooks, RHP, Tuttle, 2021
A 5-10, 180-pound proportional frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with rhythm and a high leg kick before striding across his body and finishing balanced, arm action has moderate length in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 79-81 mph, commanded to both sides. Slider shows 10/4 shape with some late depth at 71-72 mph. Changeup shows consistent fade at 70-72 mph. Brooks gave up just three hits in 7 innings 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, and got 4 Ks.

Ubbenga
Dayson Fazekas, RHP, Red Oak, 2021
A 6-foot, 170-pound proportional frame. On the mound, the right-hander works from a simple delivery with rhythm that he repeats well. Arm action is short and fluid before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sat 78-80 mph. Changeup was thrown in any count for stikes with late fade at 68-71 mph. Curveball shows 11/5 shape at 64-68 mph. All pitches for strikes. Fazekas tossed a complete game shutout allowing 7 H, 0 R, and 1 BB, and getting 8 Ks.

Keaton Barrett, SS, Union, 2020
A 6-foot-1, 170-pounds lean frame with lots of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a quiet set up with a slight crouch. Uses a middle to opposite field approach with an inside out swing. Went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Trace Evans, 3B, Edmond Memorial, 2020
A 6-foot, 180-pound proportional frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slight open and knock-kneed set-up. Uses a very simple load before launching his hands on an efficient and flat path through extension with barrel control and some barrel strength strength. Evans went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.

John Bay, 3B, Shattuck, 2020
A 6-foot-1, 205-pound frame packed with strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a balanced setup and uses a slight leg kick and quality leg drive before launching his with some length on a slightly uphill path with bat speed and strength. Bay went 2-for-4 with 2 2B and 2 RBI.

Game 3
Sandlot Tulsa Roberts vs OKC Sandlot Baez: 4-3

A physically advanced 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander pitches from a slightly up tempo a simple delivery with a high leg kick. Arm action is long and loose in the back before coming through a near over the top slot with some arm speed. Fastball keeps its plane at 81-82 and touched 85. Curveball shows 11/5 shape with big rolling action at 66-68 mph. Condit tossed 2.2 innings allowing 1 BB, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K

Elijah Alexander, SS, Westmoore, 2021
A 6-foot-1, 160-pound frame very lean frame with lots of room to add size and strength. Uses a flat swing with quickness in his hands. Went 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored and a walk. Defensively shows advanced actions with soft hands and clean footwork.

Game 4

Tate Busey, RHP, Pea Ridge, 2020
A lean and projectable 6-foot-1, 170-pound lean and projectable frame. The right-hander works from an abbreviated and simple delivery with a moderate leg kick before driving down the mound. Arm action has moderate length in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball jumps on hitters sitting 85 and touching 86. Changeup flashes some fade thrown with slower arm speed at 70-71 mph. Curveball is developing at 67-68. Busey went 5.2 innings with 7 Ks allowing just 3 H, 1BB, and 3 H.

Dylan Hampton, OF, Piedmont, 2020
An impressive strong and durable 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from and upright and relaxed setup. Uses a moderate and quick stride before launching his hands on a flat and efficient path with bat speed and strength. Hampton went 1-for1 with a hard hit single and a walk.

Game 5
Russel vs TBC: 9-6

Gabe Russell, 1B, Owasso, 2020
A 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame with some strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from a slightly open and back leg heavy set up. Uses a controlled and moderate leg kick before launching his hands on and efficient and flat path through extension. Russell went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored.

A 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame with some wiry strength and room to add more. Offensively, the right handed hitter bats from a wide and athletic set up with rhythm in his hands. Uses an efficient and flat path with some bats speed and barrel control. Went 2-for-3 with two 2B, 2 RBI, R, 1 BB. Also shows advanced actions at short with soft hands smooth lateral movement.
