OKLAHOMA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

It was another week full of impressive performances for Oklahoma high school baseball with more than a few players being deserving of the Player Of The Week title. The most outstanding performance this week though, came from uncommitted 2019 SS  Carter LaValley from Carl Albert. The left-handed hitter put up staggering offensive number through a full six games last week.

Carter LaValley SS / 2B / Carl Albert , OK / 2019

In six games last week, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame with some strength went 10-for-14 (.714) with four doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBIs. As impressive as those numbers are  along, LaValley also scored 14 runs, walked 11 times, and stole 13 bases.

Jakob Brandenberger, SS/RHP, Putnam City West,2020
In a rain shortened week, Brandenberger put up some impressive offensive numbers in two games. The switch hitter went 4-for-6 with two doubles and a grands slam.

Evan Shapleigh, RHP/3B,  Regent Preparatory School, 2018
A 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. The right hander got the win against a top 20 class A school tossing five innings, allowing no runs on four hits, and striking out four. Shapleigh also went 4-for-11 at the dish on the week (.364) with five RBIs and five runs scored.

Brady Bowles, RHP/OF, Buffalo HS, 2018 (Northwestern State)
On the mound, the right-hander went 1-0 including a tournament championship win over a #5 ranked Vici and a saving, tossing 7.1 innings, allowing no runs on two hits while punching out 17 and only walking three. At the dish Bowles went 6-for-8 (.750) with a double, two home runs, six RBIs, seven walks, and an HBP.

Honorable Mention

Devan Johnson, 1B/LHP, Midwest City, 2018
A very projectable 6-foot-4, 175-pound frame. Offensively, the left-handed hitter went 7-for-17 (.412) with a double, two triples, and a home run, with eight RBIs. He also pitched threw a complete game going five innings, giving up two runs, while striking out five and only walking one.

Brandon Ulhorn, OF, Claremore, 2018
In the rain shortened week and playing in our only three tournament games Ulhorn was able to hit .556 and had four extra base hits, two doubles, and two triples. He also had three RBI's and four runs scored and was 3-for-3 on stolen bases.

Hayden Brown, RHP, Duke, 2018
The right-handed went 2-0 this week including a no hitter against Cement.

Worth mentioning are the two players responsible for walk-off home runs leading Duke a tournament championship. Shopomore catcher Matt Milner first walked off Merritt with a grand slam, and in the championship game sophomore third baseman Dawson Brooks hit a three run home run to end the championship game.
