PBR OK Power 25: Week Five
April 10, 2023
As we move into April and we are well underway in District play, we take an updated look at the Power 25 for Week 5. We are past the point of projecting with talent and have real results to rely on when putting the Power 25 together. There are multiple factors that come into play with this list with overall record, strength of schedule, strength of record, and our own scouting eyes from what we've seen on the trail. All records shown come from the OSSAA rankings website.
There has been some slight shuffling in the top 10 but the top three remain the same. After Union handled number one Bixby on Monday night, it was the Spartans who got their revenge with a walk-off victory on Tuesday to even the score in the district matchup. Union might have been primed to take over the top spot in the rankings but then dropped a tough contest to Broken Arrow who with their win sees their stock rise to number 4 in the state. Stillwater maintains their third spot in the rankings after another strong week including two top ten victories. The only new entrant to the Top 10 comes from Blanchard after a strong showing against some out of state competition at the Owasso Pro-Nine tournament this past weekend.
There are three new teams to this week's Power 25 with two of them making their debuts to the list. Norman makes their debut to the list after rattling off 8 straight wins with three of those coming against teams on the Power 25 list. The results early on in the season were slightly mixed for the Tigers but you can make a case that as of late, they have been playing as good as anyone. Another team making their debut to the list are the Owl from Elgin as they enter this week on a 10 game winning streak including taking down a top ten opponent during the streak. The Owls have been getting some serious production out of their younger players on the roster and they are starting to come into their own. And finally, the Yellowjackets from Choctaw reenter the Power 25 this week as they seem to have shaken off some of the earlier season woes and playing their best baseball on the year in the past two weeks.
