PBR Spotlight Game: #2 Poland Seminary vs Tallmadge

Poland Seminary got some clutch hits to tie the game, then benefited from errors and wild pitches to take the lead and eventually defeat Tallmadge in the Hudson Regional Semi-Finals.

Tallmadge got on the board first with a big 4 run bottom of the second inning. Three consecutive singles by senior catcher Matt Noel, freshman 3B Zach Boyd and freshman DH Scott Seeker. Junior SS Ben Pratt then drew a bases loaded walk to score the first run of the game then freshman LF singled in another run.  Freshman lead-off hitter CF Jared Burick and senior P Will Woods each drew bases loaded walks to drive in a third and fourth run.

Poland junior Jared Burkert then got the last two outs of the inning to put an end to the big inning.

Poland came right back as senior LF Nick Romeo singled to left center, followed by a bunt hit by junior CF Eric White. Lead-off hitter SS Anthony Calcagni pounded a single up the middle to drive in the first run for Poland. Senior 3B Dom Lipari blasted a double to left center field to drive in two more runs and senior C Ricky Svetlack singled up the middle to tie the game.

Romeo then got 1-out single in the 4th inning. That’s when Tallmadge started to self-destruct. An infield error and two wild pitches eventually scored both Romeo and White, making the score 6-4.

Burkert battled the rest of the way, working out of jams in the 3rd and 7th innings to keep the score at 6-4 for the win.

Tallmadge finished the season at 14-15 and a District Championship. (Starting four freshman).

Poland advanced to the Regional Championship game with a 26-2 record.
