PBR Spotlight Game: #22 Aurora vs #11 Massillon Jackson

Canton – In the championship game of the Division I Canton region #22 ranked Aurora took on #11 ranked and 2014 state champions Massillon Jackson. In a low scoring affair the Greenmen took down the Bears 3-0.

Aurora starting pitcher – junior right-hander Adam Long pitched 4 and 2/3 innings picking up his sixth win of the season. Despite five walks Long was able to limit Jackson to just two hits. He struck out two batters. Senior right handed pitcher Carter Semancik – a John Carroll commit – earned the save throwing 2 and 1/3 innings. Semancik walked two, allowed one hit and struck out one.

The Jackson offense only recorded three hits but had several loud outs. Jake Kempt, Sam Miller and Zach Mottice all had singles on the day.

The Bears starting pitcher, junior right-hander Christian Specht held the Greenmen to one unearned run in three innings. He allowed four hits, walked none and struck out four. But Specht came on in relief during Jackson’s extra inning win over Walsh Jesuit on Thursday so the Bears coaching staff went to the bullpen in the 4th, 5th and 7th innings calling on Zach Meese, Miller and Jake Pallotta respectively.

The Greenmen offense was led by the top of their order. Their two, three and four batters combined for six hits, two runs and two RBI. Sophomore outfielder Ben Stawicki highlighted the offense with three hits including a double. Senior second baseman Andy Weber – a Virginia commit – chipped in with two singles.

With the win the Aurora Greenmen improve to 22-5 and move on to face Archbishop Moeller on Thursday June 4th in Columbus.

With the loss the Jackson Bears season ends and their final record is 23-7.
