PBR Spotlight Game: Cuyahoga Heights beats Dalton

By Aaron Hutchison
Regional Scout

COPLEY, OH - The first game of the Copley regional proved to be a pitchers battle with both pitchers throwing complete games and only surrendering 8 total hits and 15 stikeouts.

Cuyahoga Heights struck early taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off a 2-out RBI double by starting pitcher Zac Lowther.

The second inning proved to be the only big inning of the game for either team with the first three batters reaching base, all of which scored.  The 3-run second was capped with a 2-out, 2-RBI single by senior third baseman Jason Kleppel.  Kleppel accounted for 3 of the teams 4 runs in the game.

Dalton's junior LHP Ty Husted, was very effecting from the 2nd on.  The crafty lefty kept the Redskins offense quiet after the second allowing only one hit in his final four innings of work, and getting double play balls in the final 3 innings.

Lowther relied on his slider to account for 6 of his 12 strikeouts while scattering 3 hits and walking 4 in the complete game effort.  The southpaw calmed down after his first inning in which he lacked command of his fastball.  He came back in the 2nd and struck out the side using his two pitch combo the rest of the way.

Also noted in the game for Cuyahoga Heights is senior Alan Kmiecik who was 2 for 3 on the day with one run scored.
