COPLEY, OH – The second game of the Copley region continued the theme from the first game: pitching.

This game featured a matchup between underclass hurlers, junior LHP Mason McWilliams for Seneca East and sophomore RHP Dalton Donachie for Springfield.

After successfully keeping Springfield off the scoreboard in the first two innings, McWilliams pitched himself into a jam in the third.

Senior Jojo Caraballo bunted to lead off the inning and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Ian Grdina.  A hit batter and walk brought clean-up hitter junior Joey Wrask to the plate.

Wrask did exactly what the slot entails and sent a fastball over the left-field fence for a grand slam.

The next batter walked and Donachie was able to help his own cause at the plate and delivered and RBI single to add the 5th and final run of the inning for Springfield.

The final run of the game was scored in the 6th when Caraballo was hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly to center from sophomore outfielder Ryan Kohler.

Donachie went the distance for the complete game victory in which he only allowed one hit, strking out four, with five walks and three hit batters.

Despite one big inning, McWilliams’ outing featured three hits, nine strike outs, five walks, and three hit batters.
