PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week: OF/LHP Mason Holz

The Waupun Warriors have been off to a great start in the 2023 season, and OF/LHP Mason Holz (2024) has been a huge part of that. During week four, Holz helped the Warriors tally five more wins, and they are currently 12-1 on the year.

To start his illustrious week, Holz and his Warrior squad took on Berlin. In the game, Holz was masterful on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he went 3-for-5, and recorded the games only XBHs with a pair of doubles, and he finished the game with two RBIs, too. On the mound, he was equally impressive as he did not allow a hit across his five innings of work, while also striking out 12 batters. He then followed it up with a 1-for-1 performance against the same Berlin squad on Thursday where he also drove in three RBIs, as well.

Later on in the week, Holz got the start in Waupun’s matchup with a solid Beloit Turner squad on Saturday. Across his five innings of work, Holz did earn the no-decision as he gave up just two earned runs on five hits, while striking out four. Offensively, he tallied a pair of singles en route to the big win for Waupun.

Later on that same Saturday Waupun handed then ranked-No. 18 Westosha Central a loss. In this game Holz tallied two hits, a double and a single, to drive in one run in an eight-run fourth inning for the Waupun offense.

Holz ended week four batting to a tick of .500 which included four doubles. He also drove in seven run while scoring eight of his own, and he did not strikeout once during the week either. On the mound, he totaled 16 strikeouts across 10 innings of work and gave up just five hits.

For his efforts, Holz has been named the PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week, for the fourth week of WIAA action, ranging from Monday, April 17th to Sunday, April 23rd. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
