James Island - 5                                     Beaufort - 4

The James Island Trojans hosted nearby rival Beaufort in Game One of the Class 4 A Lower State Championship. Despite allowing 3 runs to tie the game in the top of the fifth, Trojan’s pitching held strong to come back and win in an exciting fashion.

Trojans’ starter and Western Carolina commit, Stephen West, immediately displayed his command on the mound forcing a strikeout and two ground outs for quick work in the top of the 1st. The Trojans continued to take advantage in the first by scoring on an error by the Beaufort shortstop and a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt.

After staying ahead of Beaufort through 4, the Trojans allowed Beaufort to tie the game on a series of hit by pitches and a walk that led to Beaufort tying the game on a passed ball. In the 6th, the Trojans would answer.  Hogan Garner led off with a hard hit, line drive double to left field.  He would move to third on a wild pitch and score on a balk from Beaufort pitcher Oliver Holmes.

James Island reliever Keillor Osbon shut the door in the 7th, and they were unable to come back in the top of the 7th inducing a strikeout and pop up with the tying run on second base.
