Plainfield East Walks Off Minooka

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor - Illinois/Wisconsin

PLAINFIELD, IL - Plainfield East gave up an early lead to Minooka on Thursday, only to come back and win it in dramatic walk-off fashion 4-3.

Senior RHP’s Andrew Hoffmann (Plainfield East) and Seth Gutknecht (Minooka) squared off on the mound. The Bengals got on the board right away in the first as Hoffmann drove in Dalton Crowder with a two-out RBI single after Crowder doubled. East tacked on another in the third thanks to an RBI single by Crowder.

WIth a 2-0 lead, Hoffman looked as though he had enough to finish off Minooka, but the Indians took advantage of some defensive misques in the fourth that tied things up at 2-2.

Minooka took the lead in the following inning. With the bases loaded and one out senior shortstop Hayden Laczynski drove a ball to left for a sacrifice fly, and a 3-2 lead.

Minooka starter Seth Gutknecht had been sharp, and still in the game in the seventh, looking to finish the complete game. But three straight baserunners gave Plainfield East a base loaded nobody out situation, trailing by a run. This set the stage for senior Jacob Havis who drove a walk off double to left center scoring the tying and winning runs and giving Plainfield East the 4-3 win.
