Player Analysis: Team Green from the Top Prospect Games

Previously, we release the complete statistical analysis from the 2013 Top Prospect Games. 

+ Andrew Beck, IF, Cardinal Mooney HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 195-pound infield prospect with solid, athletic frame. Registered a 7.16 60-yard dash. Showed improvement in his defensive skills since his last event. Looked more comfortable. Footwork was fluid and showed more softness in his hands. Good lateral movement. Used short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 76 mph across the infield. Transfer can still get a tad long at times. At the plate, he showed a balanced setup. Registered a top velocity of 89 mph off the tee.

+ AJ Stockwell, LHP/1B, Perrysburg HS, 2014

6-foot-2, 170-pound two-way prospect. Projects best as a pitcher at the next level. Uses average arm speed through a ¾ arm slot with regular effort. Fastball sat 78-80 mph with some cutting action to it. Showed good command of a 66-68 mph breaking ball with 1/7 break and good depth. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance and a small leg kick. Shows pull tendencies in his swing. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 81 mph off the tee and a 7.31 60-yard dash. 

+ Axel Bueter, LHP, Wauseon HS, 2014

6-foot, 160-pound southpaw with solid frame. Throws with above average arm speed through high ¾ arm slot. Uses a smooth rhythm. Tends to throw a bit across his body. Fastball sat 84-86 mph with a bit of run to it, but struggled with command at times. Also uses a 66-68 mph breaking ball with good depth.

+ Brett St. Clair, RHP/3B, Sandusky St. Mary’s HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect with solid frame. Registered a 7.56 60-yard dash. On the mound, he shows average arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot with short arm action. Delivery requires regular effort. Fastball was straight at 80-81 mph. Displayed a 67-69 mph breaking ball. Needs to development consistent command of the pitch. In the field, he projects as a corner infield type. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 76 mph across the infield with accuracy. Shows some length in his transfer. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses an athletic setup. Starts with his hands high in his load. Shows average bat speed. Registered 76 mph exit velocity off the tee.

+ Cameron Johnson, IF, Tippecanoe HS, 2014

6-foot, 183-pound infield prospect. Registered a 7.22 60-yard dash. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot in the field. Transfer gets a tad long. Reached a top velocity of 77 mph across the infield with some strength to his throws. At the plate, he starts with an athletic setup and uses a short stride with a fluid rhythm to his swing. Takes a level path to the ball. Creates line drive type production. Registered a top exit velocity of 79 mph off the tee.

+ Douglas Lowe, LHP, Triad HS, 2014

6-foot-3, 175-pound southpaw. Uses above average arm speed and long arm action through ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat at 81-84 mph with some cutting action to it.  Shows some effort to his delivery. Will only get better as he develops repeatability in his delivery. Needs to continue developing consistency of secondary pitches. His changeup fluctuated between 65-71 mph.

+ Jacob Csizmadia, IF/OF, Elyria HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 190-pound athletic prospect. Registered a 7.02 60-yard dash. From the outfield, he shows fluid footwork and plays through the baseball. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot with carry on his throws.  Registered top velocity of 87 mph. In the infield, he projects more as a corner type. Shows arm strength at present, but needs to develop better angles to the baseball and use his athleticism. At the plate, he hit from both sides. Looks more natural and confident from the right side, where he showed more consistent contact and power. Swing tends to get a bit long still. From the left side. He struggled maintaining balance and opens the bottom half early.

+ JT Perez, 1B, Orrville HS, 2014

6-foot-4, 200-pound first baseman with tall, athletic build. Registered an impressive 7.2 60-yard dash for his size. Showed good feel for his position with fluid footwork and a long reach. Reached a top velocity of 75 mph on his throws. At the plate, the left-handed power hitter starts with a balanced setup. Uses a small leg kick with a big load. Shows good use of his strong lower half with some quickness to his hands. Takes uphill path to the baseball with pull power.  

+ Justin Mott, C, Amherst HS, 2014

5-foot-9, 165-pound catcher with smallish, athletic build. He may not have the proto-typical size for the position, but he knows how to catch. Plays with a chip on his shoulder. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash. Reached top velocity of 80 mph from the crouch with accurate throws. Pop times sat between 2.05 to 2.12. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach. Uses a short stride and smooth load. Swing path looked shorter than the last time that we saw him. Showed good use of his lower half and surprising pop in his bat. Registered top exit velocity of 84 mph off the tee. 

+ Mark Delas, C/RHP, Perrysburg HS, 2014

6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect with strong, solid build. Registered an impressive 6.94 60-yard dash. At present, his best tool is his bat. Uses a tall setup with a short stride. Shows a short, slightly uphill path to the ball. Definite pull power in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee. Behind the plate, he uses short arm action with high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 76 out of the crouch. Registered pop times between 2.15 to 2.19. Actions can be stiff at times. Likely projects as a first baseman or corner outfielder at the next level. On the mound, he sat 81-83 mph and touched up to 85 mph. He throws through a high ¾ arm slot with average arm speed and short arm action. Uses a slight inward turn to his delivery with more torque left in the tank. Breaking ball sat at 62-65 mph with gradual 12/6 break.

+ Mason McWilliams, LHP, Seneca East HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 160-pound southpaw with thin, athletic build. Showed quick arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Delivery doesn’t require much effort. Fastball sat 84-87 mph with slight sink to it. Used a 68-69 mph curveball with gradual 2/8 depth to it as well as a hard 74-75 mph slider. His changeup was straight at 78-79 mph but thrown near fastball arm speed.

+ Matt Kittlelberger, RHP, Perry HS, 2014

6-foot-6, 205-pound right-handed pitcher. Throws through high ¾ arm slot with long, loose arm action. Delivery requires regular effort. Fastball shows occasional run at 83-84 mph. Uses a 66 mph slurvy type breaking ball with late 11/5 break. Also showed feel for a 73-74 mph slider. His changeup sat at 75 mph and was thrown near fastball arm speed, but it was straight and tended to be up in the zone.

+ Nick Conner, OF/RHP, Dublin Scioto HS, 2015

6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect with strong, athletic build. Registered a 7.26 60-yard dash. Reached top velocity of 87 mph with carry on his throws. Shows good feel for his position, but needs to continue playing through the baseball. At the plate, he starts with a balanced stance. Uses a short stride and loads his hands from his shoulder. Takes uphill path to the ball. Consistently squared up the baseball with some pull power in his swing. Likely projects as a corner outfielder at the next level. On the mound, he throws with long arm action through an over the top arm slot. Delivery requires some effort. More of a thrower than a pitcher at this stage. Fastball sat 83-86 mph with straight action. Used a 65 mph breaking ball with gradual 12/6 break and a 70-71 mph cutter.

+ Riley Minorik, IF, Walsh Jesuit HS, 2015

5-foot-11, 175-pound infielder. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. His defense is his best tool. Shows fluid footwork and a quick transfer. Should be able to play either spot in the middle at the next level. Reached a top velocity of 76 mph on his throws and looked comfortable from all angles. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a balanced stance. Uses a short stride. Has a tendency to get long with his swing path. Line drive type hitter. Registered top exit velocity of 87 mph off the tee. Interesting follow as he gets stronger.

+ Skyler Kelly, IF, Carlisle HS, 2014

6-foot, 165-pound infield prospect. Registered a 7.12 60-yard dash. In the infield, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 79 mph on his throws. In the long run, he may projects best as a third baseman. Transfer tends to get a bit long. At the plate, he starts with an open stance with a small leg kick. Tends to drop his hands in his load. Takes short, level path to the ball. Registered 85 mph exit velocity off the tee.

+ Tim Turner, LHP/OF, Massillon Jackson HS, 2014

5-foot-10, 175-pound two-way prospect with short, athletic build. Registered a 7.02 60-yard dash. Showed strong skill set in the outfield. Uses long arm action through over the top arm slot with some carry on his throws. Reached top velocity of 83 mph. Plays through the baseball and shows a good feel for the position. At the plate, he starts with an open stance from the left-side. Needs to work on consistently square up the front side in his load. Takes short, level path to the ball. Contact type hitter that will hit for average and move runners. On the mound, he sat 80-82 mph. He didn’t show consistent command of his breaking ball, which registered at 69-70 mph. Tends to slow down his arm action on a 74-75 mph changeup.

+ Tre McIntyre, C, Triad HS, 2014

6-foot, 193-pound athletic prospect with solid, muscular frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph from the crouch. Uses quick footwork and simple transfer with little wasted movement. Pop times sat between 1.95-2.00. At the plate, he loads his hands from his shoulder. Shows some quickness in his hands (82 mph exit velocity off the tee). Takes an uphill path to the ball. Has tendency to get around the baseball at times. Will only get better as he improves the use of his lower half. 

+ Trevor Lind, OF, Western Brown HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 215-pound outfielder with solid frame. Registered a 7.32 60-yard dash. From the outfield, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 72 mph on his throws with more left in the tank. Showed average footwork. At the plate, he starts with a tall, closed stance. Hands are high prior to his load. Shows average bat speed (79 mph exit velocity off the tee). Takes short, level path to the ball. 

+ Ty Suntken, RHP/IF, Wauseon HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 185-pound athletic two-way prospect that recently gave his commitment to Ohio University. Registered a 6.95 60-yard dash. In the field, he shows athletic feet. In the long run, he may project best as a third baseman or corner outfielder. Reached a top velocity of 86 mph across the infield. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. He uses a short stride with good balance in his swing. He consistently squared up the baseball and showed pull power. Registered a top exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee. On the mound, the righty throws through a high ¾ arm slot with short arm action. The delivery requires some effort, but he uses a good tempo. His fastball is straight at 85-88 mph. He showed several off-speed pitches with his best being a hard 76 mph breaking ball with 12/6 break. Also uses a 78-80 mph cutter and a 73 mph changeup.

+ Zac Lowther, LHP, Cuyahoga Heights HS, 2014

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound southpaw committed to Xavier shortly after the event. Uses quick arm speed and short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Shows easy effort to his delivery. Throws slightly across his body. Fastball sat 85-88 mph with hard run to it. Showed good command, using both sides of the plate. His breaking ball sat at 72-73 mph with late, 11/5 action. Also showed an 80 mph changeup, but didn’t throw it much.
