Player Spotlight: 2019 RHP Joshua Vega (Chris the King HS)

Dan Cevette
President, New York

Our "Player Spotlights" will be reserved for any prospect across New York who's abilities on the field have made some noteworthy recent buzz. Possibly a recent event where a Top Performer Spotlight article is just not enough, or maybe a recent commitment to a major program. Whatever it is, I'll (Dan Cevette) be going in-depth on the player spotlighted below with personal insight and honest feedback. Let's get started.

Joshua Vega RHP / Christ the King , NY / 2019

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: We saw Vega back in Oct. and really liked what we saw from the 2019 RHP. Lacking in velocity at the time, but composed on the mound and had command of three pitches. At the time I pegged him as a player to follow and one that need more velocity to really gain some extra attention. Fast forward to Feb. 21 and in only 3 in half short months his fastball climbed 7-mph with all pitches showing progress. I'm extremely excited to see him pitch at the NYS Games June 25-27 and would not be surprised to see him grab another gear.

SCOUTING REPORT: Standing 5-foot-10, 165-pounds from a lean athletic build. Quick tempo to his delivery, creates positive momentum, uses hip separation with a long stride, fluid long arm action, releasing the ball from a high 3/4 slot fastball peaks at 84 mph. Shows confidence and feel with the change-up, fastball hand speed with a diving to arm side action 75 - 76 mph. Curveball sits 73-75 mph showing a hard late 10/4 shape, swing and miss potential. In October of 2016 we witnessed him sitting 77 mph, now up to 84 showing significant arm strength improvement.
