Introducing PBR Georgia

Sean Duncan
President

With great pleasure, we bring to you Prep Baseball Report Georgia. Our mission in Georgia mirrors that of our other state-specific coverage: to provide the most comprehensive in-state scouting information, to promote high school baseball and, ultimately help Georgia prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. Our goal is to be the year-round No. 1 scouting resource for prep baseball in Georgia.

Although it will take some time to achieve the status of our other 37 states, we are certain we have the right person to thoroughly, accurately and honestly scout Georgia:

Blake Davis.

A native of Gainesville, Georgia, Davis has a decorated professional scouting resume that spans the last 17 years, ranging from national crosschecker, regional crosschecker, area scout, front office and as a player agent.

Davis spent four years as the National Crosschecker for the Toronto Blue Jays, where he was responsible for evaluating all the top amateur prospects across the country. Prior to his stint with the Blue Jays, he served as the Midwest Crosschecker for the Kansas City Royals for two years. Davis also spent seven years as an area scout for the A’s and Royals, signing notable prospects such as Huston Street, Dallas Braden, Corey Brown, Cliff Pennington, Bubba Starling, Jeremy Barfield and Sam Demel, to name a few.  In 2005, Davis earned the Dick Bogart Scout of the Year Award.

Davis took a two-year hiatus from the pro scouting scene to serve as the Vice President of Player Personnel for Select Sports Group. Davis’ first job in Major League Baseball was a two-year stint working in the Arizona Fall League, serving in baseball operations and dealing with every MLB teams’ prospects playing in the league. He followed up his post at the AFL by working in the front office of the Anaheim Angels in Scouting and Player Development for a year.

Aside from his accomplishments as a scout, the Davis name runs deep in baseball and basketball in Georgia. Davis’ father and grandfather were highly successful basketball coaches, while his uncle, Jody Davis, was an All-Star catcher with the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. His cousin, Wade Davis, is currently with the Colorado Rockies and is one of the top closers in baseball, while another cousin, Josh Davis, is the pitching coach at Georgia State. Back in his playing days, Blake Davis helped lead Gainesville High School to consecutive state championships in 1996 and 1997, and played collegiately at Marian University in Indiana.

Now Davis will bring his vast baseball experiences and passions for scouting to Georgia’s prep baseball scene. Davis will work tirelessly to bring to you the most comprehensive high school baseball information Georgia has ever seen and provide scouting coverage to all corners of the state. But he can’t do it alone. Please email him at [email protected] with college commitments, relevant news, and top players in your area.

Georgia-specific events will begin this summer. Prep Baseball Report events are designed to give players the maximum exposure needed to advance to the next level.
