2019 Outlook: A year ago, the Desert Shields won just two games. Both of their wins came in league play as they progressed during their 2018 season. Each of their two wins occurred later in the year, one of which was the final game of the season. In addition, four of their last six losses were by 1 run.
This season, they will rely on a young team with ample game experience. Their roster will likely be the smallest in the division; however, they lost just two starters off of last year’s club. Coach Bailey and his staff will rely heavily on seniors Chris Rose (.552/0/9) and Joe Moreno (.425/1/7). Junior, Angel Astorga led the team in RBI in 2018 with 11 (.447/0/11) and will perform double duty, playing a factor on the mound as well. He started 5 of the Desert Shields’ 16 games a season ago and Coach Bailey is counting heavily on his services again this year. As Cheyenne settles into its new classification, one can expect them to surprise a few teams late and possibly play spoiler as the post season approaches.
