Indiana Scouting Staff

On Feb. 16, PBR Indiana hosted one of its biggest showcases on its annual calendar: Preseason All-State. This invite-only showcase brings together the state’s best talent in its 2020 class, and all that talent was certainly on display at Roundtripper Sports Academy over the weekend. A total of 96 of Indiana's best juniors made it to Westfield on Saturday, many of whom remain uncommitted.

Today, we look at some of the top performances coming out of Saturday’s Preseason All-State.

Pitchers

+ Perhaps the biggest winner of the event was uncommitted RHP Cole Gilley (Columbus East HS). Gilley, listed at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, has clearly worked hard over the off season, slimming down and adding strength to his frame since the last time we saw him at the Future Games last August. He commanded the zone with an 88-89 mph fastball, topping out at 90. The arm works from a short, high ¾ slot with quick arm speed. He compliments his fastball with two potential plus off-speed pitches; a sharp 11/5 curveball with depth and a changeup with arm side run.

+ Casper Clark (Columbus North HS, Indiana commit), is a 6-foot-6, 255 pound RHP that made his presence known this past weekend slinging 89-91 mph fastballs, topping out at 92 mph. He compliments his fastball with a mid 70’s, swing and miss breaking ball with depth. Clark will be one for scouts to follow this summer as they start to prepare for the 2020 draft.

+ At 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Zach Behrmann (North Central HS, Indiana commit) made his case for being the top LHP in Indiana’s 2020 class. On Saturday, Behrmann was up to 89 mph with his fastball, five ticks higher since his last PBR event in August.

+ RHP Jose Guzman (Ben Davis HS, Cincinnati commit) raised his stock as one of the top right-handers in the class. The 6-foot-4, 205 pounder features a short, quick arm action with a fastball sitting 87-90 mph and a sharp 11/5 breaking ball at 71-73.

+ We’ve known Columbus North’s Grant Trinkle (Kentucky commit) to be more of an outfielder in the past, but the 5-foot-9, 172 pound athletic righty made a statement on the mound Saturday sitting 91-93 with his fastball for a strike. He pitches from a shorter, quick high ¾ arm action. Trinkle also featured a plus changeup at 80-83 with run and cut action, keeping it down in the zone for a strike.

+ Uncommitted LHP Tyler Nemtuda (Portage HS) showcased a nice three-pitch mix at the event. The 6-foot-1, 195 pound lefty sat 83-84 with run and deception. The breaking is sharp with 1/7 shape at 68-70 for a strike. Nemtuda’s changeup was 74-75 and kept in the zone. He utilizes a long, quick arm action from a high ¾ slot with rhythm in the delivery.

+ Illinois State commit RHP Gene Kolarik (Crown Point HS) is a quick-armed righty that sat 85-89 on Saturday, up a couple of ticks from last winter. The big 6-foot-7, 230 pounder will be one to continue to watch this spring and summer.
